Homecoming Win Moves Tinley Park to 4-0

Quarterback Kyle Sheridan guides the Titans to a 34-13 win over Hillcrest's Hawks.

The Tinley Park Titans moved to 4-0 on the football season after a 34-13 homecoming win over Hillcrest on Friday night.

The Titans were led offensively by junior quarterback Kyle Sheridan, who went 13-of-21 for 237 yards with two touchdown passes and a rushing TD.

The Titans mixed the run and the pass effectively all night. Senior running back Hassan Abdullah rushed for 194 yards on 22 carries and scored twice, on runs of 6 and 30 yards.

"Hassan (Abdullah) ran hard as usual," Tinley Park head coach Nick Johnston said.  "He's a load when he goes north and south, and that's what we preach: Run north and south.

"When the line blocks and hold their blocks, it opens up holes for Hassan," Johnston added. "Then Kyle (Sheridan) makes plays on his feet when nothing is there. We had a bunch of playmakers and dished the ball around pretty well today."

Hillcrest opened the scoring on a first-quarter touchdown run of 14 yards by quarterback Breyonte Brewer. That was the Hawks' only lead of the game.

Sheridan found junior wide receiver Eldridge Anderson for a 16-yard touchdown pass as Tinley Park tied the game at 7-all.

Sheridan added a 23-yard TD pass to Adam Gunther and scored on a 1-yard run. The Titans rolled from that point on, carrying a 27-13 lead into the locker room and posting a second-half shutout.

"We buckled down after a couple of long runs and gave them a few penalties," Johnston said. "After that, in the second half, we shut them down pretty well.  I was proud to hold that zero in the second half."

Tinley Park improved to 2-0 in the South Suburban Blue conference. Hillcrest fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The game did leave the Titans with a few things to work on next week in practice.

"There's a lot of things we need to work on," Johnston said. "We need to improve on a lot of things — staying in our gaps, doing our jobs and just getting better at what we've been doing well."

The Titans will visit Oak Forest (3-1, 1-1) next Friday.
