Softball: Gunther Powers Tinley Park Past Oak Lawn

Tinley Park 10, Oak Lawn 4. Titans use five-run sixth to defeat the Spartans in a conference match-up.

Touching All the Bases: A back-and-forth game was blown open in the sixth inning by visiting Tinley Park. The bottom of the Titans' lineup got on base and was driven in by the top in a 10-4 softball victory over Oak Lawn on Monday. With Tinley Park leading 5-4, second-baseman Megan McCampbell doubled. Miranda Stroz followed with a single. Alyssa Williams drew a walk to load the bases for third baseman Alyssa Gunther and center fielder Amber Buss . Both drove in a run and Tinley Park led 7-4. Then, Staci Bonezek singled to drive in two more runs, and Tinley Park ran away with the victory.

Patch’s MVP: Tinley Park third baseman Alyssa Gunther (2-for-4, including a double, and 2 RBIs). Gunther hit leadoff for the Titans and did her job scoring two runs. She also showed her cleanup ability with two RBIs.

Tinley Park Leaders: Starting pitcher Miranda Stroz (7 innings pitched, 4 strikeouts, 7 hits, 3 earned runs). Stroz, only a freshman, settled down after a three-run first inning to quiet the Oak Lawn bats. Center fielder Amber Buss (3-for-5, 2 RBIs). Second baseman Megan McCampbell (1-for-4, 2 runs scored).
