Sports Video Highlight Reel: Bulldogs Baseball Bark Suddenly Goes Silent

A huge sixth inning powered the New Lenox Rebels past the Bulldogs in opening-round play at the Tinley Park 13-14 year-old baseball all-star tournament.

The heat didn't stop the Bulldogs from barking. But a few miscues took away their bite.

The Tinley Park Bulldogs 13-14 year-old baseball team looked sharp through five innings, but some costly mistakes and walks resulted in six New Lenox runs and cost the Bulldogs the ballgame as they fell 9-7 to the Rebels in opening-round play of the Tinley Park all-star tournament.

Starting pitcher Malik Kurdi looked on point early as he struck out four of the first five batters he faced. He allowed only one earned run through two innings. The offense provided him with support as two Bulldog runners scored in the first inning.

After the Rebels took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third, Eric Arnold singled. Three runs scored and the Bulldogs regained the lead, 5-3. they tacked on two more runs in the fifth, cashing in on two walks.

But the wheels came off in the last inning as New Lenox's Joe Ruppenthal hit a bases-clearing double off of relief pitcher Arnold to knock in three runs and pull the Rebels within one run of the lead.

At the plate, Arnold (1-for-1, 3 RBIs, 1 run, 2 walks) and Alex Bacevicius (1-for-1, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases, 2 walks) led the Bulldogs. Ruppenthal (1-for-2, double, 3 RBIs, 1 run, 1 walk) and John Skiniotes (1-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 run, 1 walk) led the Rebels.

Skiniotes picked up the pitching win for New Lenox, while Arnold was charged with the loss.
