Tinley Park District Stars and Stripes Race Attracts Crowd

More than 700 people turned out to celebrate their Independence with a 5K at McCarthy Park.

The Tinley Park Park District staged its Stars and Stripes 5K Run/Walk in McCarthy Park on Monday.

More than 700 people participated in the second annual Forth of July event. Mitch Gilbert placed first overall, traveling the 3.1 miles in 15:50. Zach Dahleen was just behind at 15:53.

The woman’s division was led by Sarah Grzybek with a time of 19:07.  The average time for finishers of the race was 31:57.

Jeff Zimmerman: T-Bolt Turned Huskie

Jeff Zimmerman, a 2010 Andrew High School graduate, enjoyed an explosive first season with the Northern Illinois University baseball team. Zimmerman blasted 11 home runs, finishing with the third highest total for any freshman in Division I. The home runs along with the 47 RBIs he totaled were both freshman school records.

The Tinley Park Bulldogs 12-under travel baseball team played an unexpected game.

Bulldogs Registration: Fall Ball Anyone?

Fall baseball leagues are forming now for the Tinley Park Bulldogs.  Age groups of 8-9 and 10, 11 and 12 will compete this autumn. Sign up from 6 to 7 p.m. on July 13th at the Bulldog Field House.
