Heat Wave Keeps Fourth of July Crowds Small

Many Tinley Park residents chose to wait after dark to participate in holiday activities.

With record-breaking temperatures Wednesday, the kickoff of in , drew a smaller-than-normal crowd.

Temperatures reached 103 degrees in town by mid-afternoon, although the official temperature reading was O’Hare International Airport at 102.

By 4:15 p.m., only about 50 people watched the and post members participate in ceremonial events. But Mayor Ed Zabrocki was still there in the evening to welcome a gathering of folks to another year of music and fireworks at .
