DeVry community helps TWC clients on path to employment

Students, faculty and staff of the DeVry University community in Tinley Park donated women's wear to Together We Cope's resale shop, Nu2u, after a clothing drive.

For many clients of Together We Cope, putting food on the table and shoes on the kids’ feet is the top priority when they seek assistance from the Tinley Park nonprofit. TWC responds immediately to families in temporary crisis from throughout the south suburbs, both through direct aid and with referrals to other agencies.

But sometimes the need lies in a different direction. In this soft economy, many family breadwinners are still searching for work after layoffs or reduction in hours. Often, they seek the proper clothing to look professional while on the job hunt.

The DeVry University community on the Tinley Park campus was sensitive to that need when students, faculty and staff contributed gently used professional women’s wear after a recent clothing drive. The clothing was delivered to Nu2u, the resale shop of Together We Cope, where clients can shop on vouchers issued by the agency. The store also is open to the public.

“This is one outreach in our ‘Building Community’ effort among students, staff and faculty at the DeVry campus,” said Kristin Mattingly, director of community outreach. “We are considering various ways our students can become involved in the community as part of their education at DeVry.” The Tinley Park campus is located at 18624 West Creek Drive.

Together We Cope is located at 17010 South Oak Park Avenue in downtown Tinley Park. Its Nu2u resale shop is located at the same address. The shop accepts donation of gently used clothing and housewares. Further information on the agency is at www.togetherwecope.org or at 708-633-5040.
