Oak Park Avenue Water Main Replacement to Begin April 28

Replacement of water main along Oak Park Avenue is slotted to begin April 28, continuing through May 23. 

The Village will replace about 450 feet of water main in the northeastern portion of Tinley Square, between the addresses of 17000 and 17030 along Oak Park Avenue. 

Construction is projected to be finished no later than May 23, with restoration (asphalt paving) to be complete by mid-June. Parking will be allowed on the gravel after May 23. Work will begin on the southern most end of the project area and move north, culminating with intersection work at 170th Street and Oak Park Avenue.

“This particular section of water main was built in the 1950s and has had five failures since 2001, so it we thought it was best to replace the entire section entirely to help prevent future water main breaks in that area,” said Trustee Tom Staunton, who also is chairman of the Village’s Public Works Committee.

The parking lot in front of stores on the northern end of Tinley Square will be closed during construction, and drivers will have to park in other designated parking areas (as directed by the appropriate signage). The east portion of the parking lot will be off-limits from 17000 to 17030, but there will be parking along the north side of the Together We Cope building, as well as in the rear of the plaza.

“Closer to the end of the project, work will traverse the north end of Together We Cope and 170th Place, resulting in a daytime shutdown of 170th Place to make the tie-in,” Staunton said.

The sidewalks in front of the stores will remain open during the project.

Work will be performed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until the project is complete. Some work may be done on Saturdays if circumstances prevent crews from working during the weekday. No work will be done on Sundays.
