Andrew High School Music Parents Get Crafty for Fair

MONDAY, OCT. 28
St. George Ghouls' Gathering: Frightening fun for your little monster, at 6700 W. 176th St. This free family friendly event features trunk or treat, ghostly games, a haunted pumpkin patch, creepy crafts, a flashlight scavenger hunt, costume contest, a martial arts performance, "Touch a Truck" with a firetruck, and many more treats! Food will be available for purchase. Starts at 6 p.m. 

Pick a Pumpkin at Faith United*: 
Faith United Presbyterian Church is trying its hand at the pumpkin trade. From Oct. 17–31, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (dusk) pick a pumpkin for $3 and up (depending on the size of the pumpkin). Enjoy apple cider, snacks and fall decorations during the week. Fridays through Sundays there will be extra activities to entertain children, including a Bounce House, a maze, and a crafts activity table. There will be settings available for photo opportunities, too. The pumpkin patch is a fundraiser to help many of the church's ministries, provide camp scholarships and help its fulfill needs within Tinley Park. Find out more info. *Every day through Oct. 31.  

$20 Flu Shots: To prevent the spread of the flu virus within the community, Orland Township is offering flu shots to residents from Sept. 23 through Oct 28. Vaccines for residents between 19 and 65 are available for $20. Uninsured or Medicaid-eligible children under 18 receive the shot for free. Proof of residency is required. Find out more details

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 30
Children of America Fun Fest: Stop into 16124 S. LaGrange Rd. for a night of fun and activities! Kids will play games, make crafts and decorate cookies! There will also be a scholastic book fair, and anyone is invited to purchase books from scholastic and take them home the same night! Please call 708-403-2719 if you would like to attend. THURSDAY, OCT. 31
Trick-or-Treat in Tinley Park: Trick-or-treat hours are from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in Tinley Park. Find out more. 

FRIDAY, NOV. 1
Tinley Park-Park District Helps Out Santa! Santa has trouble fielding all his fan mail, so the Tinley Park-Park District has agreed to help the Big Guy out. Children who would like to write to Santa and receive a personal letter from him should drop off their letters at "Santa's Mailbox" in the Bettenhausen Recreation Center during office hours from November 1 through December 1. Children age 3 to 12 only, please. Don't forget to include your address for Santa! Because Santa will be  busy packing his sleigh for Christmas Night, he will only be able to answer letters received on or before December 1. Get more info. 

SATURDAY, NOV. 2
Craft Fair at Andrew High School: From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 Saturday and Sunday, parents of Andrew's school musicians will hold the annual Andrew Music Parents Arts and Craft Fair. With over 150 vendors, food and music, holiday shopping can be fun! Last year's show brought out 3,000 people—will you attend this year? Find out more info.

Holiday Gift Faire at Tinley Park Public Library
Stock up on supplies to deck the halls, at Tinley Park Public Library's 11th Annual 
Holiday Gift Faire on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m.  to 4 pm. Special decorative 
items for the home, kitchen items, delicious food, candles, jewelry and much 
more will be available from new and favorite home party vendors including 
Discovery Toys, Pampered Chef, and Scentsy Wickless Candles. Get more info.

SUNDAY, NOV. 3
'Johnny Appleseed' at Governors State University: 
The musical version of this classic tale will be presented by the Virginia Repertory Theatre in association with Governors State University Center for Performing Arts on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. 

Johnny Appleseed is the legendary folk hero who planted apple orchards throughout the Midwest, playing a major role in the settlement of our nation. This rousing, funny new frontier musical is part rollicking adventure, part inspiring history, and 100 percent All-American. Tickets are $10.00 for all ages. Get more info.

Ending Oct. 31: Buy Something Sweet, Support the Search for a Cure: 
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Creative Cakes Bakery in neighboring Tinley Park will donate a portion of its proceeds on certain pink sweets to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Help in the fight against breast cancer by buying a Strawberries and Cream Cupcake, some Pink Ribbon Cookies, or Pink Ribbon Brownie Pops through October. Find out more.  

Ending Oct. 31: 
Jean Therapy in Orland Park is holding a month-long jean drive to help stock Neat Repeats, the resale store operated by the Crisis Center of South Suburbia. People who bring in a pair of jeans to the store throughout October will get $15 off a purchase, and the jeans will all be donated to the Crisis Center of South Suburbia. The non-profit supporting battered women and families in need runs the Neat Repeats resale store, where the donated jeans will be sold.
