Orland Township Donation Drive for Tornado Victims

Making plans for the weekend? Patch has rounded up a list of events and activities going on in and around Tinley Park.

If nothing matters but the weekend, you better plan it out. Patch is here to help by spotlighting some of what's going on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in and around Tinley Park.

In response to the aftermath of last weekend’s tornados, Orland Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady and the Board of Trustees are spearheading a Supplies and Relief Drive for Washington, Ill. Starting immediately donations of pillows, toiletries, gift cards, etc. can be dropped off at the Orland Township Office, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. 

Donations will be accepted during regular business hours the week of Nov. 25, Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Orland Township will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving but will reopen to accept donations on Friday, Nov. 29 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Donations will be accepted until Saturday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. Find out what to donate

SATURDAY, NOV. 23
The Great 2013 Toy Wrap: This year, hundreds of compassionate volunteers invite you to join Children’s Hunger Fund to wrap tens of thousands of toys for children who might otherwise go without this Christmas. Come volunteer at the Chicago warehouse and you can be the difference between despair and hope! Get more info. 

Princess Party at the Park District, 11 a.m.: Calling all of our favorite princesses back for another royal event. Come dressed in your favorite princess outfit to enjoy a day of magical fun with fairytales, a craft, and tons of princess activities. A snack will be provided. This event is for ages 3-5. The fee is $16 Resident/$21 Non-Resident. For more information please call the Park District. 708-342-4200. 

SUNDAY, NOV. 24
Open House at Br. Rice: Brother Rice High School will host its final Open House for prospective students and families on Sunday, Nov. 24. The school will be open from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for parents/guardians and their sons to receive an individualized tour of the school from a member of the National Honor Society. Administration, teachers, coaches, and staff will be present to meet with families and answer any questions regarding Brother Rice and the admissions process.

Tinley Park-Park District Helps Out Santa! Santa has trouble fielding all his fan mail, so the Tinley Park-Park District has agreed to help the Big Guy out. Children who would like to write to Santa and receive a personal letter from him should drop off their letters at "Santa's Mailbox" in the Bettenhausen Recreation Center during office hours from November 1 through December 1. Children age 3 to 12 only, please. Don't forget to include your address for Santa! Because Santa will be  busy packing his sleigh for Christmas Night, he will only be able to answer letters received on or before December 1. Get more info.  *Ongoing daily through Dec. 1.
