KKK dwindling to less than10,000 members? Not just renaming themselves the Tea Party.
Rick Langley April 24, 2014 at 02:02 pm
@Gerson Goldstein You can say God in school, just like the Klan can say what they wish. SchoolsRead More can't force God on kids. You don't seem to understand the 1st Amendment.
J Leland April 24, 2014 at 02:15 pm
KKK breaks into a few homes and then comes to the rescue. An age old strategy.

Thank you Alison I was thinking the same thing....

Cut the number of districts in half, reduce the number of administrators, introduce uniforms fromRead More elementary to high school, put all public employees on 401Ks and cut property taxes by 25%. Make this state livable again and do it fast. BTW, why are Pat Quinn's property taxes around $3,400 (according to the Tribune)? Does he live in an outhouse or is he getting special treatment?
Bill Lindich April 24, 2014 at 02:35 pm
"Reboot Illinois" misses the point once again, which is that federal spending is aRead More pittance and the Dept. of Education should be shuttered permanently. IL spends $38.4 billion of our state and local taxes on education. That means the $1.4 billion from the feds amounts to 3.5% of total funding (which, of course, comes from you and me by way of federal taxes - minus the carrying charges). I don't see how a 3.5% contribution rate merits complete federal control over curriculums. Kick the feds out of education now. Keep them out. It's not worth it.

Obama is doing a hell of a job bringing America down along with his dipchit backers.
Dick Schmidt April 24, 2014 at 11:12 am
Yes Harry! Because this country wasn't in a decline since the 80's. But, that's what we do, alwaysRead More blame the sitting President. The person who really has almost no control. Which president in this modern day has honestly done any good? Legalize it!

"bg robbins" -- Yes, that "someone" was YOU -- on "April 24, 2014 at 08:42Read More am" to be exact, you dragged an "ethnic minority group" into this discussion (which has nothing to do with race), piling on as much white guilt as you could. (Unless you remove your comment, it can still be seen.) Self-pitying loser.
mystuy April 24, 2014 at 03:07 pm
Pat Kittle - Master of ....cliques descriptors! "White guilt". Got a million of them.Read More Thanks for sharing them so much and so frequently. Do take original thoughts as well. Those are good. Sure you have some. Please share those as well. Take care. :)

When I graduated from LT in 1967 we were told that we were the second best high school in IllinoisRead More (New Trier was number one) and among the top ten nationally. Now New Trier is #15 and LT is #40?!? What has happened in the intervening decades. If the proposal to do away with class rank is any indicator I suspect my alma mater is succumbing more and more to the trendy aspects of modern education and moving away from expecting accomplishment.

I don't disagree with you that we're becoming less and less a free country but it's wrong to blameRead More democrats alone. It wasn't dems alone that passed the patriot act. It hasn't been dems alone that have been re-uping it since it was passed the first time. On how bad Hillary will be as a president. Every president is bad in some ways. Reagan raised taxes more than a dozen times. Bush took us to war on two fronts with no way to pay for it. Clinton signed DOMA and DADT. Obama gave away the farm in order to get the Affordable Care Act passed. Papa Bush said that atheists shouldn't be considered Americans. Sure Hillary will be a bad president in some ways.... they are all bad in some way. I can tell you this much though, any president is going to be a worse president when the publicly stated goal of the opposition is to obstruct that president at any and all opportunities. The dems did it to Bush. The republican'ts are doing it to Obama. It's like Palestine and Israel, they'll fight to the death out of spite and habit, neither one of them knowing which one threw the first punch and not caring because winning is the only goal. What America needs are citizens that go into government for the good of the country instead of the good of their party.
Michael Hipp April 24, 2014 at 02:03 pm
Oh, one last point on your last post B. Dub. "Hillary presidency combined with a DemocraticRead More Congress." Ain't gonna happen. Republicant's have gerrymandered the states to absolute death. They have the House for the foreseeable future and they have a good chance at getting the Senate. I can't guarantee you who's going to win in 2016 but I can very well guarantee you that no one party will take executive and legislative branches, both.

this "to me" is not funny, the swat teams are used for serious issues, hostage taking,Read More etc. to have a swat team called to a home behind a video game is stupid, these swat members are trained to save lives, etc. to be called to a home behind a video game is not funny, what happens if a REAL call comes in and swat is needed there, I hope they catch the idiot that called swat and he gets what he/she deserves

Shameful! The audacity to want more is as bold as cat manure. They sell the lottery, lease theRead More toll way, to their friends, all the while saying they need more money. This really stinks.

@Charles Taite - As one of the commentators responding to and to whom Black Panther of PoetryRead More responded I happen to agree with you. I don't know whether Patch removed him or whether he did so himself. I for one did not flag any of his comments as offensive regardless of my personal dislike of some of the comments he made. If Patch did so shame on Patch. P.S. As much as I have issues with what he wrote he is no where close to the KKK for bigotry or racist beliefs or talk but your point is well taken.

Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

Gary's post is full of falsehoods.
CowDung April 24, 2014 at 11:22 am
"Agreements or addenda" are not part of the Common Core. Again, if states are doing theirRead More own thing by adding stuff or agreeing to do something different, it isn't Common Core.

If it's on the internet it must be true? A small group of parents make up some "facts" andRead More post it on random news sites. So it must be true? Crimes against children are so heinous that accused pedophiles like McConnell, Sylvain Kustyan,Read More Jerry Sandusky, etc. must be apprehended before they have years to continue to destroy young lives. Sandusky is now safely behind bars. But unfortunately, Kustyan, who has been formally charged with two counts each of 1st Degree Sodomy and Sexual Abuse of a ten-year-old little boy, fled to avoid imminent arrest. Kustyan, formerly of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Hermin/ Mazingarbe, France, as an English teacher, has led numerous groups of schoolchildren on trips to the US, the UK and Ireland.. Pedophiles condemn their victims to a lifetime of emotional and psychological trauma and often permanent physical ailments as well. Since the average pedophile has 300 different victims in their lifetime and since the recidivism rate among pedophiles is virtually 100% and since there is no effective treatment and no known cure they must be stopped ASAP!

I've known Father Mike since I was a small child and I refuse to believe this is true. He workedRead More closely with my parents for years in youth ministry and they never ONCE saw him act inappropriately toward a child or teen. He was so well-loved in our Parish that MANY of my childhood friends asked him to officiate at their weddings (myself included). I am a parent now and I would trust my children with him 100%. I know there are many guilty parties in the Catholic (and other Churches) but this time, they have it wrong!

How long do you think it will take to recover from the deficits, left from Bush's wars?

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup!
