Tinley Park High School students enjoyed their moment in time on Friday, May 17, as juniors, seniors and their guests took part in the school's prom. The event, which took place at Chicago's Union Station, featured music, food and merriment for all in attendance at the annual event. Decked out in suits, tuxes and the finest of dresses, attendees danced the night away to music spun by Show on the Road Productions, featuring Top 40 hits, classics and everything in between. Attendees also enjoyed food from Little Italy and Little Village while taking a break from cutting a rug, as well. The magazine's 2013 rankings are out; see where other area high schools ranked.
Newsweek tipped its hat in favor of all four schools in Lincoln-Way High School District 210 when naming the best high schools in the country. “Congratulations on your school’s accomplishment,” Newsweek/Daily Beast reporter Lauren Streib wrote in a note to Lincoln-Way High School District 210. “I’m thrilled to let you know that (Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West) made our list.” Based on information gathered for the 2011-12 school year, Newsweek and The Daily Beast determined all four Lincoln-Way High School District 210 schools have proven to be among the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. Eric Connelly is one of only 101 students in the state to score a 36 on the ACT this year.
Tinley Park resident Eric Connelly recently made Providence Catholic High School history as their first student ever receive a perfect score on the ACT. “Eric is a young man that commits himself to living up to his full potential every waking second of the challenges that help him grow as a person spiritually and intellectually,” Providence Principal Don Sebestyen said in a press release. “He is an individual who takes encouragement and runs with it towards growth.” Connelly is a member of the National Honor Society, scholastic bowl team and math team at Providence. The newly-elected board members for Summit Hill District 161 were sworn in.
At the Summit Hill School District 161 Board of Education meeting April 30 the newly-elected board members were sworn in and officers were elected. Sworn-in and seated at the Summit Hill School District 161 Administrative Center were newly-elected board members: Rich Marron, Pam Kohlbacher, Richard Ward and Dave Faber. The terms for the former officers expired. The new officers were nominated and voted in. The board approved the following positions: President: Sean William Doyle Vice President: Rich Marron Secretary: David Faber After the new board elected officers, board members discussed a desire to possibly abolish the policy committee. Lincoln-Way North's Linda Egnatz wins Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented with award in surprise visit.
Lincoln-Way North High School teacher Linda Egnatz got the surprise of her life—and a Golden Apple Award—during a visit from Golden Apple representatives May 1. Egnatz, who teaches Spanish III, Spanish IV, Spanish V, AP Language, AP Literature at Lincoln-Way North High School, was presented with a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in front of her students. An excited and overwhelmed Egnatz thanked the administrators, those involved in her nomination and the students. “When I see my students interacting with locals in another country, I know they are prepared,” Egnatz said in a Golden Apple press release. Her students develop the confidence that builds motivation, and they make connections that engender global understanding …
George Levy Mueller, an 82-year-old author and retired pharmacist from Glenview, told Central Middle School eighth-graders Monday about living in Germany through WWII, losing his parents at a young age and surviving 3 concentration camps.
