Defense: Throw Out Arrest of Drifter Accused in Sex Assault

A public defender for Dennis Dodson, the drifter accused of sexually assaulting a then-83-year-old woman near Tinley Park, is filing a motion to quash the arrest based on the identification of Dodson in a photo array.

A public defender for a homeless man accused of sexually assaulting an elderly woman is questioning the photo identification of her client and announced Thursday that she is filing a motion to get his arrest thrown out. Dennis Dodson, 36, is currently in Cook County jail and appeared in Judge John J. Hynes' Bridgeview courtroom in his customary khaki Department of Corrections uniform and ponytail. Prosecutors say on Sept. 26, 2011, Dodson wrestled an elderly woman to the ground, and sexually assaulted her behind the Home Depot at 159th Street and Harlem Avenue in Orland Park where he was living at the time. Tinley Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse in Mokena Park

David J. Potter, 20, of the 17800 block of 66th Court in Tinley Park, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, receiving probation and mandatory registry as a sex offender.

A Tinley Park man has been sentenced to two years probation for having sex with a 13-year-old girl. David J. Potter, 20, of the 17800 block of 66th Court in Tinley Park, agreed to register as a sex offender as part of a plea deal offered by the state. He reversed his original plea of not guilty just as pretrial hearings were set to begin Wednesday. Potter had consensual sex with the girl in a Mokena park after they met this summer at a Tinley Park roller rink. The girl’s parents reportedly contacted police once they learned of the incident. For the rest of his life, Potter will have to register with his local police department as a sex offender. If he fails to, the state can bring separate felony charges against him. choose for herself if she DOES or DOESN'T want to have sex with a boy regardless if he is legally considered an adult or not. If she can physically tell him and show him that YES she DOES INDEED want to have sex equally as he chooses to with her, then why should the guy be punished alone. If the minor can tell the courts that she did consent to having sex with him, then i believe it was 50/50. …   more ›

Tinley Park Man Pleads Not Guilty to Sex with Girl in Mokena Park

David J. Potter, 20, of the 17800 block of 66th Court in Tinley Park, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse this fall.

A Tinley Park man accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl in a Mokena park pleaded not guilty on Wednesday. In November, David J. Potter, 20, of the 17800 block of 66th Court in Tinley Park, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a felony carrying three to seven years behind bars. Mokena police said Potter met the girl this summer at a Tinley Park roller rink and had consensual sex in October. The girl’s parents reportedly called police once they learned of the contact. Potter remained in jail Wednesday morning on a $150,000 bail. Pretrial hearings are scheduled to begin on Jan. 11, 2012, before Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak.   Looking for more crime news?
