Kevin Walsh is accused of pushing a police officer after a basketball game at Stagg High School.
Although "a healthy rivalry" exists between Andrew and Stagg high schools, incidents such as the Dec. 7 brawl in which one student is accused of pushing a police officer aren't representative of the relationship the District 230 schools share, a district spokeswoman said. In these cases, the "poor decisions" of a small group of students take away from the positive things that go on between Stagg and Andrew, said Carla Erdey, spokeswoman for District 230. "The students work together on a lot of projects in their communities," Erdey said. Kevin P. Walsh, 18, is charged with battery to a police officer, resisting arrest and mob action following a Dec. 7 basketball game at Stagg High School in Palos Hills. Two juveniles also face charges …

Disparity on the glass, missed opportunities keep Titans from winning home finale.
Tinley Park senior point guard Andrew Sebastian connected on a three-pointer with 5:17 left in the second quarter to pull the Titans to within 17-16. He found the bottom of the net again from long distance 32 seconds later. And then he did it one final time a minute later. Sebastian's quick outburst was perhaps the lone time Friday night when the Titans appeared comfortable on offense during the South Suburban Blue contest against T.F. North, and it didn't last. Once the Meteors realized they couldn't allow Sebastian to shoot, they tightened up defensively, not allowing him another field goal the rest of the game, while forcing the Titans to hurry their passes and rush shots all evening. T.F. North forced 16 turnovers. Making that number …

T.F. North 51, Tinley Park 42. Meteors use rebounding edge, defensive pressure to top Titans.
The Hot Read: Tinley Park only trailed 41-37 midway through the fourth quarter but its next five possessions included three missed shots and two turnovers. Codero Rudder finally ended the lengthy scoreless stretch with a three-pointer with 2 minutes 35 seconds remaining to pull the Titans to within 46-40 but they wouldn't cut into the deficit any further. Patch's MVP: T.F. North's Montero Rice had missed the last three games for the Meteors but he appeared far from rusty, coming off the bench to score a game-high 20 points. Rice made 10 of 11 free throws. Key stats: Three strikes and you're out might be a baseball analogy, but what about the following three stats. T.F. North outrebounded Tinley Park, 32-20. Tinley Park committed 11 more …

Tinley Park 67. Oak Forest 59. Andrew Sebastian scores 12 points as Titans hold on for victory over Bengals on Tuesday night.
The Hot Read: Oak Forest, after falling behind early in a 67-59 boys basketball loss to rival Tinley Park on Tuesday night, tried to claw its way back. For a while, it looked like the Bengals had a good shot. Even though the Titans led 36-28 at the half, Oak Forest didn't give up. Tinley Park's lead was trimmed to 49-43 at the end of the third quarter. And Oak Forest's string of early fourth-quarter points allowed the Bengals to take a 50-49 lead. But, in the end, it wasn't enough. Patch's MVP: Tinley Park's Andrew Sebastian (12 points). Sebastian drained a three-pointer in the second quarter which helped the Titans jump out to a 24-16 lead. Key Stats: Both teams had opportunities in the second half. Tinley Park was charged with nine …

Andrew sophomore Glorind Lisha fought through some pain to lead the T-Bolts past Bradley-Bourbonnais 55-45 on Friday night.
Andrew ophomore guard Glorind Lisha wasn't able to join the T-Bolts' boys basketball team until December because of a knee injury he suffered during the soccer season. But he's not letting the pain of a late start slow him down any more. Lisha led Andrew with 17 points in Friday night's 55-45 victory over Bradley-Bourbonnais. He's dealing with patellar tendinitis, an injury that effects the the tendon that connects the knee bone to the shin bone. "He's been playing with us for two months now," Andrew coach Mike O'Halloran said. "He's better now and he's the best he's ever been physically. He played very well." Lisha hit a pair of three-pointers early in the game, which he said helped him stay motivated for the long haul. "It boosted (my …

Andrew 55, Bradley-Bourbonnais 45. Thunderbolts ride a hot start to victory in Southwest Suburban Red.
The Hot Read: Bradley tried to use a trapping, pressure defense to rattle Andrew in the T-Bolts' 55-45 boys basketball victory on Friday night. Andrew trailed 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the T-Bolts held Bradley to four points in the second quarter. Andrew took a 22-15 lead at halftime and carried that momentum over into the second half. Patch's MVP: Glorind Lisha (17 points). Lisha hit a three-point shot early in the first quarter to give the T-Bolts a 7-0 lead. He drained another 3 near the end of the half as Andrew stretched its lead to 22-15 at the break. Key Stats: Andrew outrebounded Bradley 26-14. But the T-Bolts were whistled for 15 fouls, which gave Bradley a chance to stay in the game. The Boilermakers, however, …

Despite only being a freshman, the spotlight was on Andrew's Molly Franson in the T-Bolts' victory over Thornwood on Thursday.
Despite Thursday night being Senior Night, freshmen center/forward Molly Franson found a way to steal the show. "Tonight was a big night, it was exciting," she said. "I think that kind of hyped me up a little bit, it was fun." Franson led the Thunderbolts with 23 points and six rebounds in a 58-47 girls basketball victory over Thornwood. Andrew coach Bob Matz said Franson's overpowering performance was nothing out of the ordinary. "She does what we need her to do," he said. "If we need her to score, she scores. If we need her to do other things, she does other things. In the first half, she had 15 points in about 4 or 5 minutes. She didn't play much. She's talented." Franson remained modest about the work she did on the court. She said the…

Andrew 58, Thornwood 47. T-Bolts lose their thunder in the second half, but still manage to stop the Thunderbirds.
The Hot Read: Andrew came out firing on all cylinders on Senior Night, taking a 40-15 lead at the half. The T-Bolts went on to notch a 58-47 girls basketball victory over Thornwood on Thursday. Thornwood clawed its way back in the second half, holding Andrew to six points in the third quarter. Despite the fact that Thornwood scored 18 points in the fourth quarter, it just wasn't enough to get past the T-Bolts. Patch's MVP: Molly Franson (23 points, 6 rebounds). Franson scored six unanswered points in the second quarter to give Andrew a 28-8 lead. Key Stats: Andrew came up with 10 steals. The T-Bolts were nearly perfect from the free throw line, sinking 13 of their 14 attempts. Andrew only fouled twice in the first half, while capitalizing…

Chargers' senior Dan Ahern doesn't let his relative lack of size stop him from taking the ball to the basket.
At first glance, Dan Ahern doesn't look like your typical basketball player. The Stagg senior guard stands 5-9 and plays on a team where everybody else measures at least 6-0. But Ahern stands tall where it matters most--on the court. "All my life I've been smaller than everyone, you just get used to it," he said. "You just have to deal with it. You've got guys like (Darius) Draper, who is 6-5, to help you out, bring out the ball and get all the rebounds. I just shoot the threes in overtime and hopefully hit them, like today." Ahern scored 13 points and snared two rebounds in Stagg's 49-47 overtime victory over Andrew on Tuesday night. But that wasn't out of the ordinary for him. He averages 16 points and is the Chargers' second-leading …
