Frankfort's Brya Family Needs Your Vote to Win a Wheelchair Accessible Van

It's National Mobility Awareness Month, and 7-year-old Bella Brya is our Local Hero. She needs your support.

For Allison and Bill Brya of Frankfort every day is an uphill battle, tending to the needs of two children with severe disabilities. While it has drained their finances, it's also strengthened their resolve to love one another. Allison Brya is the voice for her daughter, 7-year-old Bella, who cannot walk or play. However, she does manage occasionally to utter some sounds. Bella collapsed of a brain aneurysm when she was just 2 years old. It left her with severe brain damage. Her 4-year-old brother Liam was diagnosed with Goldenhar Syndrome (underdeveloped ear, small jaw-line and spinal deformities); he also has a tumor that's inoperable due to its proximity to the brain stem. Frankfort Family Needs Your Help to Win Wheelchair Accessible Van

Help make Bella Brya a Local Hero. Vote for Isabella Brya at Mobility Awareness Month.

The 7-year-old daughter of Allison and Bill Brya, Bella (Isabella), collapsed of a brain aneurysm when she was just 2 years old. It left her with severe brain damage. Her 4-year-old brother Liam was diagnosed with Goldenhar Syndrome (underdeveloped ear, small jaw-line and spinal deformities); he also has a tumor that's inoperable due to its proximity to the brain stem. For most families, one child with severe disabilities poses life-changing difficulties, but the Brya family got a double dose of hardship. The article is supposed to read wheelchair accessible van...we apologize for the confusion...they left the end words out. Bella is 7 and is getting very hard to transfer to the car ...we have to fold her up..and her wheelchair doesn't fit in the car. So it's hard to get her to therapies,drs appts. Tinley Pizza Shops Serve Up Pies for Sick Siblings' Fundraiser

The Frankfort Area Jaycees are holding a benefit Tuesday at Hilda Walker Intermediate School to help the family of Bella and Liam Brya, who both have rare health disorders.

When Bella Brya was 2 years old, she collapsed at home because of a brain aneurism. “In a couple minutes’ time, our lives changed forever,” said Allison, Bella’s mother. Today, Bella is a 7-year-old student in Lincoln-Way Area Special Education District 843. She is homebound and currently receives physical therapy, occupational therapy and sleep therapy. The Frankfort Area Jaycees are hosting Pizza for Bella, a fundraiser to help cover the Brya family’s medical expenses, on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
