Village Videos: Actor Covers SafeAuto Jingle; Waitress Creates Own Pizza Rap

Patch spotlights videos that give you a different look at the community, past and present. This week spotlights advertising music as a Tinley actor jazzes up a car insurance theme, and a waitress freestyles about Boston's Gourmet Pizza.

Village Videos features videos from Patch, from around the web and from readers that showcase Tinley Park and its residents. Want your video featured? Upload it to our Neighborhood Gallery and email me at joev@patch.com to say you want to see it in Village Videos. Too bad American Idol—or The Voice or The X-Factor or America's Got Talent or Law & Order: SVU—doesn't have a special category for jingles and songs about commercial products and services. If that was the case, Tinley Park residents would clean house. Don't think so? Just check out these two videos: We need to get these two together and have a jingle off. They need to perform the Empire Carpet theme—the ad world's equivalent of an acoustic cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin…

Cathy McGuinn and brothers Tom and Jeff Blokel received the big check treatment from Illinois Lottery officials Thursday in honor of their $1 million ticket. Watch highlights from the event at Boston's Gourmet Pizza in Tinley Park.

It's been just more than two weeks, since brothers Tom and Jeff Blokel and Cathy McGuinn found out the lottery ticket they bought together won them $1 million. And it's been about a week since they claimed their prize from the Illinois Lottery. On Thursday, the trio wrapped up their whirlwind experience with an official ceremony at Boston's Gourmet Pizza at Brookside Marketplace, the place they purchased their winning Halloween Millionaire Raffle ticket. The event, put on by the Illinois Lottery, included congratulations from Deputy Lottery Supt. Victor Golden and the obligatory oversized checks. Now McGuinn, of Tinley Park, and the Boleks—Tom's from Tinley Park and Jeff's from Oak Forest— can return to their normal routines. Just with $…

3-Way Payday: Friends Share Winning $1M Lottery Ticket

It was a routine for brothers Tom and Jeff Blokel: Stop for drinks at Boston's Gourmet Pizza in TInley Park and buy lottery tickets with their bartender, Cathy McGuinn. But the trio didn't think their friendship would be rewarded like this.

For the past couple years, brothers Tom and Jeff Blokel have made a habit of stopping by Boston's Gourmet Pizza at Brookside Marketplace in Tinley Park after work for a drink and a bite to eat. It's the watering hole where the Blokels struck up a friendship with bartender Cathy McGuinn, and the three began a tradition during the visits. READ: $1M Halloween Raffle Lottery Ticket Sold at Boston's Gourmet Pizza "We just started playing lottery in general," said McGuinn, a Tinley Park resident who's been working at Boston's for three years. "We just put in a few bucks here and there. Then the raffle came along, and we decided to get a few tickets for that." $1M Halloween Raffle Lottery Ticket Sold at Boston's Gourmet Pizza

The winning ticket holder has yet to come forward, lottery officials say. Two, winning $1,000 tickets also were sold in Tinley Park.

A $1 million lottery ticket—part of the Illinois Lottery's Halloween Millionaire Raffle promotion—was sold at Boston's Gourmet Pizza, according to a lottery official. "Is that true?" asked Lisa Helwig, a manager at Boston's, when Patch contacted her Thursday afternoon. She had not been alerted by lottery officials yet but contacted the agency later to confirm the restaurant sold one of the four $1 million tickets. As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1. No one had claimed the ticket with the winning number of 137958, said lottery spokesman Mike Lang. The lottery drawing and announcement of the winning numbers was Halloween, naturally. "It's still out there," Helwig said about the $1 million ticket sold at the restaurant, which hadn't been …
