Comings & Goings: Graystone Golf Course to Close

Also in this week's business news, Matt's TV & Electronics in Tinley Park is expecting its 100,000th customer and Orland's Chick-fil-A teams up with the Bridge Teen Center to host a car show.

If you’re a fan of Graystone Golf Course at 7600 W. 191st St. in Tinley Park, you better make your tee time soon. The nine-hole layout, which was built by Jim Gray and opened in 1995, will end its run as a golf course at the end of its current season. Owners of the course want to turn the 48-acre site into either a sod or soybean farm. Odds favor a sod farm as there is already an irrigation system in place to water the grounds. Karen Gray, one of three owners and the person who has operated the course since her husband’s death in 2009, did not return phone calls. Village records indicate the course has been for sale since shortly after Mr. Gray died, but there has been little real interest in buying the land, which is zoned for office and …

Also in this week's comings and goings, an update on renovations at Olympic Star and information about a court-ordered judicial sale of the former Sam Maguire's Irish Pub.

Village of Tinley Park trustees are scheduled to consider this week a special use permit and variations for an 11,000 square foot Golden Corral restaurant for the southwest corner of 159th Street and Oak Park Avenue in two Brementowne Mall outlots. Plans for the restaurant are scheduled to come before the Village Board on Tuesday night. A site plan was approved by the Plan Commission on May 17, which also held a public meeting on the restaurant's plans that night. Preliminary plans call for 152 parking spaces, between 130 and 150 employees and seating for 440 in the restaurant that would front 159th Street in front of Menards. Ameera’s Pizzaria closed on Friday at 15911 S. 76th Avenue in Tinley Park. A tipster said he saw employees hauling equipment out of there Friday morning. The restaurant’s Facebook page doesn’t have anything to say on the closing, but the phone number has been disconnected and there’s a big “closed” sign on the front window. The pizzeria opened in January 2011. Family owned and operated Tinley Park Liquors looks to be out of business at 7032 W.183rd St. The store’s website and Facebook page have not indicated anything is wrong at the business, but its phone number is no longer accepting calls and there has been a sign on the door for weeks indicating the store is “closed for inventory.” There also is a message from April 27 on its Facebook …

Bridge Teen Center celebrates second anniversary with community open house on Saturday, May 19.

Home leisure retailer The Great Escape has opened its first superstore in the former Linens-n-Things at 15854 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park. “It’s a soft opening because we’re not 100 percent complete,” said store manager Jason Swinson. “We’ll have our grand opening in a couple of weeks, but we wanted to be open in time for Mother’s Day.” Swinson said the new store also is home to Chicago Home Fitness boutique, which moved from its former location at 14934 S. LaGrange Road. Swinson said The Great Escape acquired the fitness chain last year and is integrating those stores into its Great Escape locations. Also new to the Orland store, Swinson said, is a concept section for Jacuzzi spas. Swinson said the store also has cutting edge …

Business Comings & Goings: Gold Shops Rush to Orland and Tinley

Also, Old World Pizza is coming to the former home of Capri Express and Pama Hair Studio has new digs.

Gold prices are soaring. So too, are the number of impromptu gold based businesses in the Southland. The high price of the metal—it's been hovering around $1,700 an ounce since late last week—has brought a new gold-buying shop to Tinley Park. We Buy and Sell Gold, which the village classifies as a jewelry store, opened recently at 7112 W. 171st St. The site was home to the village’s first and only pawn shop, which closed late in 2010 after its owner violated the terms of his arrangement with the village and purchased four antique guns. The new business' store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's closed on Sundays. A gold buying store called K.E. Jewelry opened recently at 15810…
