Tinley Park Village Board members are expected to approve a large property tax break for Golden Corral, according to Sun-Times reports. The break would drop property taxes from $213,000 to just $92,396 annually, over the next 10 years.
One of the leading cafeteria-style restaurants in the nation is poised to move into Tinley Park, due in part to a large tax break from the Village, according to Sun-Times Media reports. On Jan. 23, the Tinley Park finance committee approved a tax break for Golden Corral, 6803 W. 159th Street. The break would drop the property taxes over the next 10 years from $213,000 to just $92,396 annually. Golden Corral developer Bhavin Patel told reporters that without the tax break, he and his partners would not be able to build the 11,000-square-foot building to house the restaurant. Golden Corral is expected to bring between 100 to 120 full- and parttime jobs to the village, according to the report. The village board is expected to vote on the tax …

A look at new businesses coming into town and a fond farewell to those that have, for whatever reason, called it quits.
Plass Appliance and Furniture is in the midst of a lost-its-lease moving sale at its Tinley Park store at 9501 W. 171st St. A store spokesman said everything in the store has been marked down and inventory includes washers, dryers, refrigerators, microwaves and dishwashers. The store opened locally about a decade ago. Its spokesman said the company’s remaining five locations will remain open as usual after the Tinley branch closes. For information, call 708-349-2062 or visit its website Frangella Italian Imports, 11925 S. 80th Avenue in Palos Park, recently closed its second store at 178th Street and Wolf Road in Orland Park, but will continue to serve its Italian deli sandwiches, pasta and ethnic specialties at the Palos location. The economy claimed another victim in Tinley Park this week when Casto’s Ristorante suddenly closed its doors at 16846 S. Oak Park Ave. Calls to owner Bill Casto were not returned, but a message on the front door of the restaurant cited “the economy, high taxes and unwillingness of Archer Bank to work with small business” as reasons for the closing. The restaurant opened in 1999 and was noted for its Christmas in July celebrations, which sometimes included holiday inflatables on the front lawn. A new martial arts school called Family Martial Arts opened earlier this month at 16707 S. 80th Avenue in Tinley Park. Family Martial Arts also has locations in Mokena and Shorewood. Those locations teach both tae kwondo and hapkido but the Tinley …

As the final days wind down for the Dominick’s food store at 15080 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park, village officials are hopeful the building will remain a food store. “We do believe a grocery store will reopen there,” said Karie Friling, Orland Park director of development services. “But no formal applications have been filed with the village.” It may be some time before the village knows what will happen with the building, which has been owned since 2008 by Pete’s Fresh Market. “It’s the wrong time now to open a store there,” said Charlie Poulakis, a spokesman for Pete’s Fresh Market, which is based on Chicago’s Southwest Side. Pete’s Fresh Market operates eight grocery stores and has two more in the works in Oakbrook Terrace and …
