Business Comings & Goings: Ross Dress for Less Coming to Tinley Park

Salon superstore leasing space in Orland Park • New kids store to open soon in Brookside Marketplace • Firehouse Subs coming to Lakeview Plaza • Subway opens new location in Park Hill Towne Center.

Ross Dress for Less, a California-based off-price retailer, will be opening a new store next year at Brookside Marketplace in Tinley Park. The 23,344-square-foot store will be built on vacant land between the Best Buy parking lot and a retail strip that houses Sally Beauty Supply, Massage Envy, CiCi Nails and Performance Dental. Construction is expected to start in the spring with an opening later in the year. The retailer, who entered the Chicago market slightly more than a year ago, has 21 locations in northern Illinois including Southland stores in Orland Park, Bolingbrook, Calumet City and Matteson. “We started in California and are working are way east,” said Mary Walter, senior vice president of stores. “Customers in Chicago will …

Paint store moves Evergreen Park operations to Orland Park store • Panera to donate food to charity for every baguette sold until Christmas • Tinley Mobil station switches to Citgo • McDonald's to present plans for new Orland location.

Wingstop, a fast-growing national chain based in Texas that specializes in chicken wings, opened a store last week at 15960 S. Harlem Ave. in Tinley Park. “We have both classic and boneless wings in 10 different flavors,” said store general manager Ben Gonzalez. “We also have chicken strips and gliders, which is a chicken sandwich, and five different sides and three kinds of dips. Everything is fresh and made to order.” Gonzalez said business has been improving every day since the restaurant opened on Dec. 9. Hours are from 11 a.m. to midnight daily. “Every day has been better and better,” he said. The properties that house 94 West Steakhouse in Orland Park, The Charley Horse in New Lenox and Park Hills Car Wash in Tinley Park are all going on the auction block on Friday, but all three businesses will remain open Owners Bryan and Maria Sord plan to lease the properties from the new owners, in order to focus on their efforts on running the business at all three locations. Diliberto Real Estate Services in Orland Park will conduct the auction on Friday. The company valued the 94 West Steakhouse at $6.3 million and the Charley Horse at $5.3 million. The company didn’t list a value on its website for the car wash but indicated it had annual revenues in excess of $1.1 million. Minimum bids for the three properties are $3.5 million for 94 …

Cuzzin’s restaurant at 8600 W. 159th St. in Orland Park closed a few weeks ago after being sold to new owners, according to its former owners on their Danny’s Catering Facebook page. Cuzzin’s website says, "Our Orland Park location Cuzzin's/Cugino's is now closed. Please visit Danny’s in Melrose." A message on Danny’s Facebook page posted on Nov. 19 says, “We want to let all our friends and fans know that we have sold our Orland Park location. For those of you on the south side I promise coming to Danny’s in Melrose Park for dinner or your catering needs will be worth the ride. Stay in touch with this page for upcoming events and specials. Odyssey Fun World in Tinley Park is continuing a holiday tradition it started last year when it throws the switch on its Christmas Light Show. The amusement park strung 100,000 lights on the outside of its building last year, and played Christmas music that was punctuated by the lights dancing on and off. “We plan to have the lights in full swing by (today),” said Clint Paraday, Odyssey general manager. “We’ll have more songs this year, and added the Grinch.” The show will start each night at dusk and continue until about midnight through the first week in January. Orland Park officials earlier this month approved a tax-sharing plan with Mercedes-Benz of Orland Park to help offset the cost of expanding the dealership into the neighboring former BMW dealership that moved into its new home at 159th Street and Wolf Road over the summer. The deal will give the village the first $264,532 in sales taxes generated by the dealership each year for the next five years. The village and dealership will split any additional sales taxes above that amount for five years or until the dealership has collected $453,690. The Mercedes dealership wants the additional space for a showroom for two new lines it will begin carrying: the Smart car and a Mercedes commercial van. Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet opened last week at 7260 W. 159th St. in Orland Park in the Home Depot plaza. The restaurant, which features Chinese, Japanese and American cuisine, is the third buffet for owner Jacky Chen. He also owns locations in Matteson and Forest Park. “Business has very good, so far,” Chen said. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Fashion Bug, a national retail chain that carries women’s fashions in sizes 6 to 30 and caters to plus-size women, is being phased out by its new corporate parent Ascena Retail Group. Ascena earlier this year completed its buyout of Charming Shoppes Inc., which owns Fashion Bug, and now plans to close the remaining several hundred Fashion Bug stores by early next year. Jim Saplis has been involved with cycling since he was old enough to reach the pedals. “I managed bike stores and turned several stores around on other people’s dimes,” he said. “So, I decided the time was right to do it for myself.” To that end, Saplis bought Orland Park Cyclery at 14445 John Humphrey Dr. in Orland Park, earlier this month. The shop will celebrate its reopening with Saplis as owner on Saturday, Nov. 3, and Sunday, Nov. 4. “Everything in the store will be on sale,” he said. There also will be vendor exhibits, giveaways, food and fun, he said. Saplis, 47, said Orland Park Cyclery will be a lot different under his ownership. “I have expanded the number of high-end bikes,” he said. “We now have bikes that run up to $7,000.” …

If Lisa Kopas had not started selling wedding accessories online in 2005 the Tinley resident would never have dreamed of opening her own store, LBK Boutique, 7913 W. 171st St., in the Tinley Downs Shopping Center. “I would never have done it without having the online store,” she said. “But I was successful online and was determined to try and do this myself.” Kopas decided to open the brick and mortar version of LBK Boutique after she lost her job as a controller at a power plant in Ford Heights when it closed. Kopas, 45, opened the store last month and said business was great until a road and sewer construction project started at the intersection of 171st and 80th Avenue. “Business has been half of what it was,” she said. “We sell …
