Hoosier Driver Tells Tinley Cop He's in 'East Chicago or Somewhere': Blotter

SATURDAY, MARCH 23 Benjamin Lee Anderson, 34, of the 1500 block of South Cherry Creek Lane in Warsaw, IN, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and driving without insurance, according to a report. Police were called at about 3:47 a.m. to the 6600 block of 175th Street by someone claiming a Buick was parked in his front lawn. The same person called back a short time later to say the car was driving away and that he was following. Police caught up to the Buick, driven by Anderson, on 175th Street, according to the report. Crime Reports: Lockers Broken Into at Fitness Center

Tinley Park Police reports, Dec. 22-Jan. 1 • Cashiers were arrested for underringing at Target • Counterfeit $100 bills passed • Burglars steal three TVs and leave message for homeowners.

FRIDAY, DEC. 28 The locks were cut off of three lockers on Dec. 28 at LA Fitness, 18400 Convention Center Dr. in Tinley Park. One victim reported the theft of $250 in cash, the second victim reported a wallet with $250 cash and credit cards was missing, and the third victim reported nothing missing from his locker.  On Jan. 2, an Air Force Academy cadet home for the holidays reported the theft of $100 from his locker at the fitness center. On Dec. 16, a woman discovered her wallet had been taken from a locker at the fitness center when she received an alert on her cell phone that someone was trying to make an $1,800 purchase at the Apple store in Orland Square Mall. Blotter: Man Almost Drives Out of Store in Cart With $1K in Merchandise

MONDAY, NOV. 26 Police seized a counterfeit $50 bill used at Hobby Lobby, 7061 W. 159th St. An employee at the store contacted police around 7 p.m. after he thought a customer passed a fake $50 bill to pay for a purchase, according to the report. The responding officer checked the bill and said it appeared to be a bleached $5 bill, the report stated. The customer said she received the bill as change but couldn't remember from where, the report continued. The bill was turned over to the U.S. Secret Service, the report stated. MONDAY, OCT. 22 Bryant Larkin, 24, of the 9700 block of South Yates Boulevard in Chicago, was charged with possession of marijuana after police found pot in his car while he was waiting to pick up merchandise at American Sale, 8401 185th St., according to a police report. Initially, an officer was called to the home recreation store at 5:55 p.m. to investigate possible credit card fraud, the report stated. The store manager directed police to Larkin, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a red Nissan Rogue, which was parked by the store's loading bay, the report continued. Cops: Mokena Man Claims He Drank 6 to 8 Beers Before Crash

MONDAY, OCT. 15 Adama Juldeh Conteh, 56, of the 16000 block of Alexander Drive was charged with retail theft after being arrested for stealing close to $300 worth merchandise from Super Kmart, 16301 Harlem Ave. The store's loss prevention agent called police at 5:25 p.m. to report a theft in progress, according to a police report. The agent and his partner saw Conteh put jewelry and sunglasses into her purse, then go to a checkout register, where she paid for some clothing items, the report stated. Conteh was stopped by the agent as she exited and willingly opened her purse when asked, revealing the items she placed in there, the report stated. She was then taken into custody and brought to the Tinley Park Police station, the report …

Menard's Employee Catches Man Paying With Funny Money

A local cashier called Tinley Park police this past week after a customer handed her a fake bill.

An employee at Menard's called the cops this past week after she realized a $100 bill that a customer handed her was counterfeit. The bill was used at the store, 6851 159th St., Tinley Park, around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the police report. The cashier said she rang up around $30 worth of merchandise for a man, who then handed her a suspicious $100 bill as payment. "I noticed that the texture of the bill was not consistent with most currency; the color was much darker than usual, when held to the light I could not see the security strip inside the currency, and also the employee used a counterfeit marker which showed the bill was (fake)," an officer wrote, in the report. Tinley Man Gets $2,110 in Funny Money for Oldsmobile

A local man was fooled on Monday while selling his 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora.

A 25-year-old Tinley Park man was duped on Monday after accepting a stack of counterfeit cash in exchange for his 2001 Oldsmobile. The man, of the 17300 block of South Oconto Avenue, called police around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to the report. He said he was flagged down while driving on Sunday near the intersection of 156th Street and Center in Harvey after a passenger in a vehicle noticed a "for sale" sign he had posted in his window. The prospective buyer, who called himself "Churl Johnson," said he wanted to meet in Markham so he could purchase the car, but the victim insisted on meeting in Tinley, where he lived.
