Local Grocery Stores Open on Thanksgiving

You've got the turkey, all the trimmings and more, or do you? If you missed that one must have food item for your feast, know where you can run to to pick up that last minute must-have ingredient or side dish.

Plan ahead for Thanksgiving, when there's inevitably something you'll need to go grab at a local store. New Ultra Foods Caters to 'Underserved' Area

A new south suburban grocery store promises lower prices and a mix of food choices.

A new Ultra Foods location recently opened up nearby and one area official says it will provide a boost to an "undeserved" area. Crestwood Mayor Robert Stranczek and executives from Ultra Foods cut the ribbon late last week on the new grocery store near 131st and Cicero in Crestwood—just a short drive for Tinley Park residents. "We're very excited to have Ultra Foods here in Crestwood," Stranczek said. "We've been looking forward to this moment for three years. "Crestwood, Alsip, Tinley, Oak Forest—we've all been underserved in a grocery store" he added. Pete’s Fresh Market May Replace Orland Dominick’s – In a Few Years

A grocery store may reopen in the Dominick's location in Orland Park, but not until after a road project is completed in 2013.

As the final days wind down for the Dominick’s food store at 15080 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park, village officials are hopeful the building will remain a food store. “We do believe a grocery store will reopen there,” said Karie Friling, Orland Park director of development services. “But no formal applications have been filed with the village.” It may be some time before the village knows what will happen with the building, which has been owned since 2008 by Pete’s Fresh Market. “It’s the wrong time now to open a store there,” said Charlie Poulakis, a spokesman for Pete’s Fresh Market, which is based on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
