We're making a map. We're checking it twice. We're going to find out which homes are fancy and bright. Tell us where your favorite decorations and light displays are in the village.

With temperatures dropping and snow flurries briefly visiting the south suburbs Monday, Tinley Park is beginning to feel like it's getting into the holiday spirit. Of course, one of the best indicators that Christmas is right around the corner is the abundance of elaborate decorations and lights throughout village neighborhoods. Readers have been asking on the Tinley Park Patch Facebook page where some of the best holiday displays are in town. That's why I've put together a map that locates some of the neighborhoods with homes that have caught my eye. But this just gets the ball rolling. Get Ready to ‘Deck the House’ and Win Money for Tinley Schools

Patch's new holiday contest is looking for the biggest and brightest lit homes in the area. Winners will not only receive money for their public schools, but their electric bill, too.

Does your Tinley Park house outshine all others in your neighborhood when it comes to holiday decorations? Do you believe your light arrangement to be so bright, it could be seen from space? If the answer is yes, enter Patch's Deck the House Contest for a chance to win $100,000 for your local public school system, $500 toward your electric bill or bragging rights in your neighborhood. The contest will run from Dec. 8 to Dec. 26 and Tinley Park Patch users will vote for the best-decked house in their town. From there, Patch judges will select 24 finalists nationwide, who will get their December electric bill paid by Patch (up to $500). The grand prize winner will receive a $100,000 donation to their local school system. So get decorating! …

Tinley Decks the Halls

Christmas decorations went up Friday along Oak Park Avenue.

Tinley Park Public Works employees were out in force Friday afternoon, decorating lampposts in the downtown area with wreathes and other holiday finery.
