A man claims he suffered "severe and permanent injuries" while taking care of a woman's cat.
A "vicious" cat so grievously wounded a Homer Glen man that he is suing its owner for at least $100,000. The suit, filed at the Will County Courthouse on behalf of William Baxter, claims the cat's owner, Christine Bobak, "should have known (her) cat had vicious propensities in that, upon information and belief, the cat had attacked at least one other person on at least one prior occasion." But whether Bobak or Baxter knew the cat was vicious or not, Baxter ended up taking care of the animal in April 2011, the suit said, and that was when the cat "without provocation, viciously attacked, bit and clawed" Baxter. The suit did not make clear whether Bobak's pet was just some run-of-the-mill house cat or something more considerable and exotic, …

A woman is suing the New Lenox Berkot's after her son allegedly knocked a soda off a display and it hit him in the head.

A Frankfort pediatrician accused by five women of sexually abusing them in his office has been sued by a sixth woman making startlingly similar claims.
A Frankfort pediatrician acquitted of charges he groped a Joliet woman in his office more than 10 years ago has been smacked with a lawsuit alleging he pulled the same stunt on another woman in 2011. The woman had taken her child to Jain's office in the Hedges Clinic in August 2011 when he suddenly "grabbed (her) breasts with both of his hands while she was talking to him about her child." Jain said he remembers the woman, identified in the lawsuit as Jessica Schubbe, 29, of Manteno, but denies ever molesting her. "The accusation is completely false," Jain said. "The person has other problems and she's…

A Lockport woman claims her lungs were injured when a pump at a Homer Glen service station malfunctioned.
A malfunctioning gas pump spewed fuel into a Lockport woman's lungs and landed her in the hospital for a week, said the lawyer suing an oil company on her behalf. "The way she described it to me, it was like her lungs were on fire and she couldn't catch her breath," attorney Frank Cservenyak said of his client, 64-year-old Martha Farmer. Farmer was pumping gas into her car at the 12007 159th St. Speedway station in Homer Glen in January 2011 when the pump failed to shut off, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in Will County court. The pump kept running and continued "to spray gasoline upon patrons," the suit says. "You take it for granted that it's going to turn off," said Cservenyak, telling how gasoline "mist and vapor" got into …

The county and a private nursing company were also named in the suit filed by the attorney for an unidentified man with HIV.

The HIV-infected inmate's name was withheld in the lawsuit. The man's attorney, William R. Cassian, filed a petition to "proceed under (a) fictitious name" on the grounds that the suit "involves very private information that is so sensitive" it is protected by the state's HIV Disclosure Act.
