U.S. News Lists Best High Schools: Where's Tinley Park?

The news magazine ranked Lincoln-Way East High School as one of the top schools in the state and the nation, the only high school in the Southland with that distinction. Should Tinley Park High School also be in that conversation?

U.S. News & World Report magazine released its ranking of public schools, and Lincoln-Way East High School ranked among the top high schools in both the state and the country. READ: U.S. News Ranks L-W East Among Top 50 State High Schools The Frankfort high school was the only high school in the south suburbs to earn a ranking in the magazine. Here's what some of them had to say: Mike Skillet: yes Samantha Walleck-Kracke: Nope Jason Douthett: For what I pay in property tax (70% of which goes toward the school district), Sandburg, Andrew and Stagg …

The family friendly musical will run during early January at the Lincoln-Way East auditorium.

Curtain Call Theatre will present Oliver!, the family friendly Dickensian musical, during the first week of January. yes, I heard that rumor this weekend. while it's a rumor - it's likely he's will be getting some type of high paying consulting position. if it's within this district it would be incredibly wrong. but, when we have a mayor making $100k+ a year as super of Union School district with only 110 (approximate) students - why would we expect anything different in this area?   more ›

Joe- I think the reason it looks like there's a discrepancy is because of how the state report cards work. What they list as '2011' are actually the numbers from fiscal year 2010, which was the 2009-2010 school year. State Report cards come out two years behind. I haven't looked at the U.S. News article, but I'm guessing they're using more recent numbers.   more ›

L-W East Students Help Shoeless Kids With Event

Three Lincoln-Way East classmates are asking people Tuesday to kick off their loafers and sneakers as part of TOMS Shoes' One Day Without Shoes initiative that raises awareness for underprivileged children worldwide who can't afford shoes.

When Lincoln-Way East High School sophomore Molly Noonan heard about TOMS Shoes' annual One Day Without Shoes event last year, it had already occurred, and it was too late for her to participate. She wasn't going to let that happen this year. "I thought it was an important cause, so I decided that this year I would try to do something," she said. NEWSLETTER: Sign Up to Have Lincoln-Way East Headlines Delivered to Your Inbox Daily Noonan, along with classmates and friends Heather Lorenca and Katie Shaw, have organized a local One Day Without Shoes event Tuesday, April 10, at L-W East that coincides with the national day sponsored by the socially conscious shoe manufacturer that donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for each pair it …

VIDEO: L-W Marching Bands Perform Together in Community Concert

The student musicians of Lincoln-Way District 210 schools took to L-W Central's football field last week to play in the Marching Band Showcase.

It's a rare occassion when the marching bands of the Lincoln-Way high schools come together to perform. But when they do, it's something the musicians and audences treasure. Students from Lincoln-Way East, West, Central and North performed in the district's Marching Band Showcase on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at L-W Central's football field. The bands showed off their elaboarate performance numbers for family, friends and area residents. This was the second year for the event, and it was free. But attendees were encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which was donated to the food pantries of Frankfort and New Lenox townships. For a look at the performances and interviews with some of the musicians, check out the video in our media gallery…
