LWHS D210 Supt. Larry Wyllie's Retirement Saves the District a Chunk of Change

See how much the salary spread is between a 24-year veteran and a 1st year.

LWHS District 210 is expected in the 2013-2014 school year to save $65,334.77 in salary alone with the shift from the soon-to-be retired Supt. Lawrence Wyllie to Scott Tingley, the superintendent-to-be. According to the contract, the compensation package for the 24-year veteran superintendent was identical to all other LWHS District 210 administrators. The contract states: "… (T)he salary increase will be equal to the average salary increase approved by the board for all administrators." In a comparison between Wyllie's 2012-2013 contract and Tingley's for next year, the district stands to save $915.84 in the pension contribution plan. The contract specifically states: "(T)he Board shall pick up and pay on the Superintendent's behalf, the …

So why don't you move to Plainfield? You would surely make a profit on selling your LW area house for a much larger home in Plainfield. And guess what? The teacher pay there is far below LW teacher pay. How great is that? Yeah, their PSAE & AP scores are atrocious, but who cares. Teachers are greedy and school would be much better if privatized.   more ›

L-W District 210 Superintendent's Succession Process

Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board of Education evaluated six candidates for the job of superintendent.

The Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board of Education, almost two years ago, began talking about the succession of Superintendent Lawrence Wyllie, who announced his retirement at the regular board meeting Dec. 13. Due to the expected changes in the Teachers Retirement System (TRS), Wyllie told the board in earnest six months ago that he wanted to retire in June 2013. With 54 years of service in, plus two years of unused sick time, Wyllie has logged a total of 56 years in education. The state allows $25 a day for unused sick time. But the maximum is 50 days. That's $1,250, said Johnson. Since the district does not have an "accrue" policy, the two years "means nothing for Larry," said Arvid Johnson, board president. "For Larry, there …

Taxes to Go Down Due to Bond and Interest Restructuring at L-Way District 210

Lincoln-Way High School District 210 approved its tax levy but reduced the tax rate by restructuring the bond and interest fund.

Since the cost of bonds is at an all-time low, the Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board of Education on Dec.13 authorized a plan to restructure its $225 million in bonds. Despite the approved $3.5 million tax levy increase for  2012, the restructuring works to bring the actual tax rate down. According to Superintendent Lawrence Wyllie, the tax rate should drop between 5-7 cents. At a minimum, the restructuring brings the rate down from $1.83 to $1.78. He likened the restructuring to a basic home mortgage refinance plan. When the rates drop below the initial percentage, homeowners typically refinance the mortgage to take advantage of the lower monthly cost.    "We're selling bonds at a lower rate. …It's going to reduce the (tax rate…

Scott Tingley Appointed Lincoln-Way 210 Superintendent

The principal of Lincoln Way East High School in Frankfort will succeed retiring superintendent Lawrence Wyllie.

The Lincoln-Way School District 210 Board of Education appointed Scott Tingley as the new superintendent upon the retirement of Lawrence Wyllie, who announced his decision to step down Thursday evening. Tingley, 40, has worked for Lincoln-Way for 16 years. He began his teaching career at Lincoln-Way High School in 1994, teaching business and social science. He also coached boys’ basketball in his early years. “The Board of Education believes that Dr. Tingley is the right person at the right time to lead District 210 forward – building upon not only its strong culture and tradition of success but also its core belief that ‘great is never good enough,” said Dr. Arvid C. Johnson, board president. In 2001, Tingley left Lincoln-Way to coach …

Wow, I didn't realize this post was that old until I got a message someone posted again. Kathy, read the posts again. It's not about what's right for the kids. I think the schools are top notch. it's about the process that this board operates under. You're right, no one has said anything negative about Tingley. He'll probably do fine. After all, he was hand picked by Wyllie and "approved" by the …   more ›

Lincoln-Way Supt. Lawrence Wyllie Announces Retirement

Superintendent Larry Wyllie has been at the helm of Lincoln-Way High School District 210 for 24 years. He's helped shape a generation of students.

Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Superintendent Larry Wyllie, who announced his retirement at the Thursday Board of Education meeting, has helped shape a generation of students in the 105-square miles of the district. His retirement is effective June 28, 2013. A man well respected by his professional colleagues—administrators, teachers and staff—he relinquishes the reins over a district that grew exponentially since his arrival. Wyllie's replacement, Scott Tingley, …

yes, I heard that rumor this weekend. while it's a rumor - it's likely he's will be getting some type of high paying consulting position. if it's within this district it would be incredibly wrong. but, when we have a mayor making $100k+ a year as super of Union School district with only 110 (approximate) students - why would we expect anything different in this area?   more ›

D210 Receives Mixed Marks on Annual Report Card

The district did not meet statewide standards in 2011-12, but Lincoln-Way schools were still high-ranking among area districts.

Lincoln-Way School District 210 recently received its annual Illinois District Report Card. According to the report, the district is not meeting Adequate Yearly Progress statewide standards. However, neither is any other high school district in the state, according to Sun-Times Media. Adequate Yearly Progress is determined by student scores on the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE), participation rates on state assessments and graduation rates. READ: Check Out the District's Blog in Patch's Local Voices Section During the 2011-12 academic year, the number of Lincoln-Way students meeting or exceeding state standards dropped, from 72.1 percent in 2010-11 to 68.8 percent in 2011-12. The state average during both years was …

Lincoln-Way District 210 Tax Levy Up for the First Time in Four Years

An increase in the Equalized Assessed Valuation (EAV) reflects upward movement in the economy.

For the first time in four years, the tax levy for Lincoln-Way High School District 210 is slated for an increase of roughly $3.5 million. Details of the proposed tax levy were presented Oct. 25 at the board of education meeting at Lincoln-Way East High School. The total property taxes to be levied for 2012 are $77,927, 589, according to Sawin. “As you know from previous levies, levying a certain amount does not guarantee that the district will receive the amount requested. For example, our 2011 levy was $74,416,681, while the actual amount extended was $69,951,870. The final official equalized assessed valuation for the district, the prior year’s extension, new property value, the adjusted tax rate, and the consumer price index all help …

Strategies to Motivate Student Performance Gains Confidence of School Board

Lincoln-Way High School District 210 gets good marks in annual audit report.

At the outset of the Sept. 27 board of education meeting, board members and administrators from Lincoln-Way High School District 210 paid tribute with a moment of silence for former board member, Jay Fagan, who passed away Sept. 21. Fagan served on the board for 35 years. He was first appointed in April 1971 and served until November 1981. He was reappointed in July 1984 and resigned in January 2007. Over the last five years a list of strategies aimed at motivating student performance have been implemented with concrete results, said Sharon Michalak, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. The district's team of educators focuses on: Since the above teaching methodologies are now an everyday part of the instruction process…
