Don't want to be left out in the cold if your heating system doesn't work this winter? Recommend your favorite business that fixes furnace.
If you still thought summer was lingering, last night probably killed that line of wishful thinking. Now that temperatures are dropping, homeowners are beginning to remember that the thermostat on the wall isn't just for cooling the house. But what happens when you turn up the heat, and you find out your furnace is on the fritz? No one wants to go long with a bad furnace during cold temperatures. That's why Patch is asking readers to recommend their favorite business that handles furnaces and other household heating and cooling needs. Give a shout out to that shop by writing a review in our Patch Places business directory. Think of your recommendation as a public service, telling residents the best places to go in Tinley Park. And if you …

Labor Day not only marks the end of summer, but signals the start of the Halloween season — stores dedicated to the holiday are gearing up in both Tinley Park and Orland Park. Halloween City at 15846 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park will have its village inspection this week and should open soon in the former Party City store, which closed earlier this year after merging with the Party City store at 14906 S. LaGrange Road. Job applications are being accepted at the store. A Halloween City store sign appeared last week at 16195 S. Harlem Ave., and a Spirit branch is being advertised at 16086 S. Harlem Ave., both in Tinley Park—the latter, in the former Bud's Sports Bar. A Halloween Express store will also soon open at 15818 S. Harlem Ave. in…

CEO and company president, John O'Donnell — when asked by Patch to explain his company's ranking — credited the "high caliber of employees" for SPi's successes. “It’s truly an honor to be included on the Inc. 5000 list amongst the nation’s fastest growing private companies," he said. A more-than 23,000-square-foot building will soon join the cluster of structures in Brookside Marketplace on 191st Street in Tinley Park.
Another nationally known retailer will soon be coming to Brookside Marketplace. DDR Corp., the Ohio-based company which purchased the Tinley Park shopping center earlier this year, has proposed adding a 23,344-square-foot free-standing building for an unnamed retailer, officials recently said. The development would be built between the Best Buy parking lot and a strip of stores to the south. It would be the first new development by DDR and the first for the shopping center since an expansion last year opened up space for Old Navy, Home Goods and Five Below. The Chicago Tribune reports: DDR is also seeking a variance for taller monument signs around the shopping center to add space for the retailer's name, but (Greg Hannon, trustee and …

Local officials said they've given an informal "yes" to a vendor's proposal for a bakery at the 80th Avenue Train Station. If everything goes as planned, its doors should open this fall.
The newly renovated 80th Avenue Train Station is about to get a little sweeter. Village of Tinley Park officials have said they recently agreed informally to a proposal from executive chef Nicole Betourney, who recently presented a vision for her Palos Heights-Based business, Isn't That Sweet. She is expected to be up and running this fall. Triblocal Reports: Betourney, also known as "The Cupcake Lady," listed potential food choices and compared her pricing with that of competitors. But she won the officials' support with the promise of "high-quality, unique bakery items in an inviting setting, an oasis of relaxation and culinary pleasure" when the operation gets under way — probably in the fall, after additional storage is built. Rosati’s 171st Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park recently closed. But a spokesman for the company said the franchise would be reopening “in the next six to eight months” at 76th Avenue and 159th Street within the village. It may even settle in where Ameera's Pizza used to be. Deon and Vicki O'Bryant, who live in Tinley Park and have been selling cakes at farmers markets under the name Sweet Dreams Cakes, opened a bakery over the weekend at 80th Avenue and Lincoln Highway in Frankfort. Sweet Dreams Cakes and Bakery is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays and from 6:30 a.m. to noon Sundays. Vicki O'Bryant and Lauren Tanzillo have turned their baking business into a bricks-and-mortar bakery in Frankfort, which opens Saturday. Find out how their shop is giving others' dreams a chance to come true.
There's something very appropriate about the fact that Vicki O'Bryant and Lauren Tanzillo call their new bakery in Frankfort Sweet Dreams Cakes. This venture not only has been the culmination of their shared dream of having their own bakery, but it's become the catalyst of making the dreams come true for many of the people they've hired. Sweet Dreams Cakes will have its grand opening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, with a carnival-like party that will include face painting, raffles and free samples of their freshly made desserts and baked goods. Some of the other neighboring businesses along U.S. Route 30, such as Hawgs 'N Dawgs, also will be participating in the opening. "We wanted to make it a big event because we're celebrating…

House of Brides is still open at 15810 S. LaGrange Road in neighboring Orland Park, but the store is apparently making plans for a move later this month. The bridal shop was ordered out of its current Ravinia Plaza location by Sept. 1 by Cook County Judge Maureen P. Feerick for failure to pay $232,428 in back rent to Inland Real Estate Corp. A sign dated Aug. 1 appeared on the store’s door two weeks ago, saying the store would be moving into temporary quarters while awaiting completion of a 20,000-square-foot Wedding Super Center within the next 90 days. The sign didn’t give any timetable or address of the temporary location or super center. The sign said to call or email Megan for information. The number listed was repeatedly busy and an …

It took a little longer than expected, but Matt’s TV serviced its 100,000th customer last week. Warren Kilmer, of Mokena, was the lucky customer on Aug. 8. He was surprised with an LG Network Blue-ray player, an LG Smart TV adapter, a Sycom surge protector, connecting cables and a certificate for $100 toward a new TV of his choice. He also took home a bag of munchies for his TV watching. Store manager Walter Jones said the total value for all of the prizes was $500. The store has been around for more than 50 years and has been at 17236 S. Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park since 1971. The store has been owned by Jim Fuentes, known as the Mayor of Oak Park Avenue, for the past eight years. He also runs his State Farm Insurance Agency from inside …
