Search for Missing College Student Ends in Lake

Family never gave up hope for finding Jim Sylvester, 21, aunt says.

Up until Friday afternoon when it was reported that a car was found submerged in a forest preserve lake, the family of missing Crestwood college student James Sylvester, 21, never gave up hope. Family members prayed that Jim or Jimmy, had taken some time away from the stress of his senior year of college and gone off by himself to gather his thoughts. “I just know he’s going to come walking through the door,” his aunt, Mary Jane Nowdomski, said on Friday, before word of the car being found. Those hopes were dashed when Sylvester’s 2002 Honda Civic was spotted in Lake Arrowhead in Palos Heights. Disappearance of Crestwood College Student 'Out of Character,' Family Says

Family describes 21-year-old James Sylvester, who went missing from Crestwood on March 27, as a "go getter." A search party is being organized for Monday (April 1).

Crestwood police resumed their search on Sunday for 21-year-old James Sylvester IV whose been missing since March 27. Police focused their search at DeVry University’s Tinley Park campus looking for Sylvester’s beige-gold Honda Civic, while the missing man’s family spent Easter Sunday praying for his safe return.  “PLEASE GIVE US AN EASTER MIRACLE PLEASE I BEG YOU,” his aunt, MaryJane Nowdomski, posted on her Facebook page. The well-liked college student described by his aunt as a “go getter” vanished last Wednesday evening after watching television with his mother. Missing Autistic Teen Found in Posen

An 18-year-old Tinley Park man had police and village residents searching for him late Friday and early Saturday.

UPDATED: 9:32 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 Spiro Chionis was found at 5 a.m. Saturday morning when he walked into a gas station at 147th Street and Kedzie Avenue in Posen, according to a news update from the Village of Tinley Park. UPDATED: 5:53 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 Spiro Chionis was found after 5 a.m. Saturday by Posen Police, according to Tinley Park Police. More details to come later today. Tinley Police Ask Residents to Help Spot a Missing Person

Local officials are looking for a man with a disability who was last seen on 159th Street.

Officials from the Tinley Park Police Department are asking for the community's help locating a missing person who has a mental disability. The village sent a community alert around 2:30 p.m. to find the man, who was described as Hispanic, 5 feet 4 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was last seen around 1:20 p.m. walking westbound along 159th Street near Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park, wearing a grey sweatshirt and beige pants. He was coming from the McDonald's near that intersection, according to the alert. If you see the man, police said not to approach him, "due to his mental condition." Instead, call the Tinley Park Police Department at 708-532-9111.

UPDATE: Missing Senior Found

Robert Vogt, 82, missing since Oct. 11 was located shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Less than half an hour after Tinley Park police put out an alert looking for missing senior Robert Vogt, he was found safely, police Det. John Bonarek said. Vogt, 82, was last seen leaving his son's Tinley Park home at 3 p.m. Oct. 11 driving a 1999 silver Chrysler Concord with Arkansas plates reading 858HOI. The vehicle was last seen shortly after 11:30 p.m. Oct. 12 near the Balmoral Racetrack in Crete. Vogt is 82, bald, white, stands about 5' 10" and weighs 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a tan and white knit shirt, tan pants and black and grey shoes. He has been known to wear a ruby ring on his left hand.
