Hundreds turn out for the annual National Night Out along Oak Park Avenue.
After moving from Harlem to Oak Park Avenue this year, organizers were happy Tuesday with the turnout at Tinley Park's annual National Night Out Against Crime. Hundreds of people at Zabrocki Plaza in downtown Tinley near the Oak Park Avenue Train Station got free pizza, free ice cram, free insurance quotes and so much more during the evening-long event. Several booths located in the parking lot featured various services for people looking to the village for business opportunities. See our accompanying photo gallery for a glimpse of the action. Hundreds of local families braved the humidity Tuesday night to visit with officials, firefighters, paramedics and crime-fighting canines. Oh, and a face-painting clown. Tinley Park's National Night Out not only featured members of local public safety agencies, but a juggling variety show, martial arts presentation and classic car lineup. About 20 tents hosted by local businesses lined the area. The evening was part of a nationwide effort to bind citizens together against crime. "(It) has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation," said the initiative's website.
