Business Comings & Goings: Face-Lift for Food Court at Orland Square Mall

New name and look for Jordan's Pub. Great Escape closes outlet store. Tinley Irish Parade is next Sunday.

Orland Square Mall has started remodeling its food court as part of the mall’s face-lift that started last year. In addition to new tables and seating, the food court will be getting two new tenants when the overhaul is finished by the end of the April. Minnesota-based ChikWich is a restaurant that specializes in chicken sandwiches. The Orland location will be the chain’s first in Illinois and the first outside of Minnesota. The original location is in the Mall of America. Zoup! is a soup and sandwich shop that features a dozen rotating varieties every day. The company was founded in Michigan in 1998 and the Orland location will be the chain’s third in the Chicago area. Two new stores are also expected to open this spring at Orland Square …

While they're remodeling Orland Square Mall, how about eliminating ALL the low-class, flea-market-like kiosks hawking everything from bad designer knockoff purses and cell phones to curling irons and as-seen-on-TV acne medicines! If they truly want to increase revenues, they need to raise the bar and up the quality of the products and the selling venues. I, for one, avoid going through the mall …   more ›

First Look: Cheesecake Factory Opening in Orland Park on Wednesday

The new 9,400 square-foot restaurant serving a novel-sized menu of entrees and cheesecakes opens this week for business. Take look inside while they held a test run over the weekend.

While walking into Orland Park’s latest addition to its dining scene Friday night, diners were given instructions. Order entrees and an appetizer from specific menus, ask the server a specific question about take out service and pay attention to how knowledgeable the servers are on the roughly 250 menu items available, we were told. PHOTOS: Dave and Buster's Opens Near Mall in Orland Park Test lunches and dinners were held Friday and Saturday at the new Cheesecake Factory, on the west side of Orland Square Mall next to Macy’s, as part of the lead up to the restaurant’s opening on Wednesday at 11 a.m. “We have 270 staff members for the Orland Park location, and depending on the position, some have been in training for about the last three …

Black Friday 2012: Strange Things You Saw While Shopping

A woman wading in a mall fountain? A cow in line at Best Buy? Patch hit the local shopping scene Thanksgiving night and Black Friday to talk to shoppers about the craziest, funniest or weirdest stories from the day.

Black Friday is a day for doorbusters, discounts and lines—oh, the lines. Shoppers of the Southland descended upon Orland Park, as the mecca of shopping and home to Orland Square Mall, Best Buy, Target and big names in retail. Patch hit the streets—and the lines—Thanksgiving night and Black Friday to chat with shoppers about their tales from the retail frenzy.  Some, like Nicole Harris, filed into line outside Best Buy as early as 11 p.m. Thanksgiving night, with hopes of an encounter with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. Harris sacrificed the comfort of her own bed in the name of shopping.  "We camped out last night in our tent, but we weren't the first ones here, which was kind of a surprise," Harris said. Those in line alongside Harris …

Best Routes to Drive to Orland Square Mall on Black Friday

With serious shopping comes heavy traffic. Patch has a few suggestions for getting in and out of the large retail center during one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Big crowds at shopping centers mean clogged roadways, and that can certainly be the case near Orland Square Mall. We have a few driving suggestions to lessen your holiday madness. With the mall opening for business at midnight Friday, LaGrange Road will likely be crowded, with its connections to I-80 and I-55.   With that in mind, here are a few suggestions for getting into the mall area, most of which avoiding LaGrange Road. Also, try our interactive map above to plan your own route. From the North From the South From the East From the West

Business Comings & Goings: Orland OKs Tax Sharing With Mercedes Dealership

Orland Square Mall will open its doors at midnight Thanksgiving night • Gas station fight continues in Tinley • Homer Glen Kmart to close • New liquor licenses for two Orland Park businesses • Hostess outlets close

Orland Park officials earlier this month approved a tax-sharing plan with Mercedes-Benz of Orland Park to help offset the cost of expanding the dealership into the neighboring former BMW dealership that moved into its new home at 159th Street and Wolf Road over the summer. The deal will give the village the first $264,532 in sales taxes generated by the dealership each year for the next five years. The village and dealership will split any additional sales taxes above that amount for five years or until the dealership has collected $453,690. The Mercedes dealership wants the additional space for a showroom for two new lines it will begin carrying: the Smart car and a Mercedes commercial van. The dealership says the expansion will create …

Business Comings & Goings: LBK Boutique Opens in Tinley Park

Cosi closes Orland Park location • Graystone Golf Links closes for good, becomes sod farm • Women's fashion and accessories store Love Culture sets up shop in Orland Square Mall • Orland Civic Center to hold open house.

If Lisa Kopas had not started selling wedding accessories online in 2005 the Tinley resident would never have dreamed of opening her own store, LBK Boutique, 7913 W. 171st St., in the Tinley Downs Shopping Center. “I would never have done it without having the online store,” she said. “But I was successful online and was determined to try and do this myself.” Kopas decided to open the brick and mortar version of LBK Boutique after she lost her job as a controller at a power plant in Ford Heights when it closed. Kopas, 45, opened the store last month and said business was great until a road and sewer construction project started at the intersection of 171st and 80th Avenue. “Business has been half of what it was,” she said. “We sell …

It took a little longer than expected, but Matt’s TV serviced its 100,000th customer last week. Warren Kilmer, of Mokena, was the lucky customer on Aug. 8. He was surprised with an LG Network Blue-ray player, an LG Smart TV adapter, a Sycom surge protector, connecting cables and a certificate for $100 toward a new TV of his choice. He also took home a bag of munchies for his TV watching. Store manager Walter Jones said the total value for all of the prizes was $500. The store has been around for more than 50 years and has been at 17236 S. Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park since 1971. Comings & Goings: Red Mango Heads to Orland

Also in today's Business Comings & Goings, an eye care office opens and a gyros restaurant closes in Tinley Park.

Red Mango is coming to Orland Park this summer. The Texas-based smoothie and frozen yogurt chain will be opening next month at 31 Orland Square Drive in the Shops of Orland Square near Orland Square Mall. Though it will be the chain’s first location in the Southland it's the fourth for owners Trisha and Jeff Fendt, who opened their first store about a year ago in LaGrange. They also have a Red Mango in Chicago and will open one in McHenry on July 14. “What we really love is the product,” said Trisha Fendt. “We love the taste and the health benefits.” Fendt said she and her husband opted to start their Red Mango endeavor during a career shift. She had been a social worker and her husband had been a union plumber. “We opened our first store …
