Jack is a 4-year-old pup who loves to be outside. He also can't get enough of the garden hose, as shown in the accompanying video.
Jack needs someone he can play with. The 4-year-old, 88-pound Alaskan Husky mix is full of energy—especially when there's a hose or pool within reach. As temperatures soared beyond 90 degrees on Monday, he splashed around outside in any water he could find. He was happy as a lark, despite his thick wintry coat. Jack very recently found his way to PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park, where he was relinquished by his owner. The person said Jack didn't get along well with other animals but volunteers said he's shown no signs of aggression while staying at his hopefully temporary home. He scurries up to newcomers, hungry for a pet, and his golden eyes glisten in the sun. The American Kennel Club doesn't list the Alaskan Husky as a breed …

Meet Shea, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who wants more than anything to be your best friend. From her softer-than-soft fur to her incredibly endearing face, we know this is a pooch you might not be able to resist.
Shea is everything you could ever want in a dog—or a companion in general. This sweet 2-year-old shepherd-great pyrenees mix is obedient, well tempered and affectionate. She loves to do tricks for an audience, often offering her paw or waiting patiently for a treat. Young Shea is a newcomer to PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park. She first arrived March 1 and was transferred from an area animal hospital, where she was dropped off for routine medical exams and then never picked up by her owner, PAWS volunteers said. She would be a great addition for a family, as she behaves wonderfully around children. Her calm demeanor, in part, comes from her grand pyrenees background—they're known for being invaluable companions who are keen workers and …

Local officials discussed upping the ante last week when it comes to annual contributions it sends to PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park.
The village may soon be doubling the money it throws PAWS Animal Shelter each year for helping house its lost and stray pets. Tinley Park contributes $8,000 annually to the 191st Street shelter in exchange for its help caring for impounded animals which are often picked up by Tinley Park's Animal Control Officer Kim Tessmann. All fees—$25 for the initial impound, plus $11 per day—go straight to the village, Tinley Park Police Cmndr. Steve Vaccaro said last week. But he and others from the Village Board's Public Safety Committee are now proposing that those fees be turned over, instead, to the shelter. They typically accrue to around $8,600 per year. The proposal came after the shelter requested more kickback last year from the village …

Eddie gets along well with those around him.
Eddie is a 4-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who was found as a stray and taken to PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park. He is gentle, yet still energetic. While he might occasionally bark at his fellow shelter dogs, Eddie can also play safely with his peers. He was brought in on Oct. 1, so not much is known about his past. He seems to wait until he’s outside before going to the bathroom, a sign of being house trained. Contact PAWS Animal Shelter for information on how to adopt Eddie or any other pet. Gabby, and another great cat named Petal are still up for adoption, as is cattle dog mix, Tippy, German shepherd mix, Guinness, and plenty of other great animals.

It's been a few months since we first met Mischa. Can you give a girl a home?
We first met Mischa, an affectionate Rottweiler-Chow Chow mix, in March. Finding homes for older dogs and cats can be tricky, and Mischa hasn't found the right match yet. Sweet-natured Mischa is 9 years old, and is fully chipped with all her shots and no bite history. She's 97 pounds with a medium smooth coat, droopy ears and a long tail. She's ready to find a home. It could be yours. Contact PAWS of Tinley Park for information on how to adopt Mischa or any other pet. Last week's pet Tippy is also still available. Cuddly, older cat Melissa is still looking for a home, as are plenty of other great animals.

Can you give this unique and pretty pup a home?
Lexi is an adorable, energetic 4-year-old shepherd husky mix, who gets along great with children. She first came to PAWS Animal Shelter in March. Her brown eyes and big ears give her a bit of a wolf appearance, but she’s much friendlier. Lexi’s coat is bright white and orange-brown, and she responds to basic commands to sit, stay and come. Her preferred environment is indoors, though she does enjoy playing outside, so long as she’s more in a backyard area. Lexi is a little shy, but still playful. To give this kind sweetheart a home, call PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park at 815-464-7298. Other featured pets still looking for a home include Mya, Corona and Murphy.
