This Week's Pet: Snuggles Lives Up to Her Name

This 7-year-old feline is affectionate and easy going. Plus, she might be the only one in your home who gets your teenager.

Snuggles is a 7-year-old domestic medium hair cat who enjoys cuddling. She just needs to find an owner who will reciprocate. The cat has been at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park since Sept. 20, after its previous owner had to give Snuggles up because of a move to a new apartment that didn't allow cats. Although she's good around children, especially teens, Snuggles isn't a feline who enjoys the company of other pets. Snuggles is current on her shots and is litter trained. Looking for more adoptable pets? Gus, an orange domestic short hair, is waiting for a new home. Buggs, a Retriever Labrador mix, still has a lot of love to give. This Week's Pets: Two Adorable Dachshunds

Meet Rosie and Lily, two playful and inseparable (and tiny) Dachshunds in need of a home together.

Rosie and Lily are two lovable and playful miniature Dachshund dogs that need an owner who will appreciate them both. They were taken to  PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park together from a different shelter and may be related.  The two are inseparable and would need to be adopted together. Lily is five years old, while Rosie is one year old. They both have been at the shelter for about two weeks.  They are food aggressive with each other, and would do best in a home with older children. If you're interested in adoption, contact the shelter at 815-464-7298 or visit its website. Looking for more adoptable pets? Gus, an orange domestic short hair, is waiting for a new home. Buggs, a Retriever Labrador mix, still has a lot of love to give. …

If you're interested in adoption, contact the shelter at 815-464-7298 or visit its website. Looking for more adoptable pets? Bless This Pet: Churches Offer Prayers for All God's Creatures

Long a Catholic tradition centered on St. Francis, the patron saint of animals, pet blessings have grown in popularity recently. A local deacon gives his reason why, and Patch shows you where you can get your pet blessed Saturday.

Most pet owners consider the animals in their lives to be blessings. So it's perfectly understandable that some of these same owners would want to return the favor. Pet blessings are a time-honored tradition in the Catholic Church, usually held near the Oct. 4 feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, said Deacon Joe Stalcup, who has been performing these ceremonies for St. Stephen, Deacon and Martyr Catholic Church in Tinley Park for about 15 years. READ: Deacon Blesses the Animals at Sunday Ceremony in 2010 "Within the past 15 to 20 years, [pet blessings have] developed more than ever before," Stalcup said. He attributes some of the rising popularity of these ceremonies to the evolving attitudes of people when it …

Meet Millie, a two-year-old Pointer mix who needs a home with folks who like outside energy and inside calm.

Millie is a two-year-old Pointer mix in need of a home. Inside, she's a very calm, gentle and responsive to people and their commands. Outside, she lets her energy out.  Millie has been at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park since early September, when she was transferred from another shelter. This Week's Pets: These Brothers Come as a Pair

Grayster and Zolton are waiting to move into a new home. Could it be yours? Read about them and see if these cats are for you.

A dynamic duo of black, domestic short-hair cats is staying at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park. They are originally from Mokena and were dropped off after the previous owner could no longer afford to keep them. The shelter volunteers are hoping that Grayster (who has a layer of white fur below a layer of black hair) and Zolton can be adopted out together. The brother cats came in together and should leave together. The cats are declawed in all four paws and should be kept as indoor cats. The pair also are litter box trained. Neither are aggressive and will do well with other cats. Zolton is definitely the more relaxed one of the two. Grayster is playful and likes to explore. Both are loving and friendly. If you're interested, contact …

This Week's Pet: A Terrier Mix Ready for Playtime

Samson, an energetic 2-year-old, needs a new home. Would he be a good for fit for you? Find out how you could make him your pet.

Samson is a tough dog to pin down. No, he's not feisty; he's just a stray from Tinley Park and not much is known about his background. The volunteers at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park said the 2-year-old dog is a Terrier mix but he certainly looks like he could pass for another breed of dog. He is definitely peppy enough to be a Terrier. Samson has energy to spare but isn't wild or frantic in any way. Toss him a ball and you'll quickly make a new best friend. A family that wants a playful dog will find Samson to be a good fit. If you're interested, contact PAWS at 815-464-7298 or visit the shelter's website. —By Palos Patch editor Nick Swedberg   Two Ways to Stay Connected to Tinley Park Patch:

Adopt Me: Shadow Knows ... a Few Tricks

This pitbull and labrador mix is just waiting to be adopted.

It's tough to understand how Shadow has gone unadopted for the nearly a year. She's such an energetic and fun pup. But according to her trainer at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park, Shadow is equally content running around as she is sitting on the couch. Shadow also is learning quite a few tricks, including how to sit, heel and come when called. She's good with other dogs so, if you already have some, Shadow should fit in fine. She just tends to stay by herself when around other dogs. Ideally, Shadow would fit in a home that doesn't have young kids and with someone who would continue her training. If you're interested in her, contact the shelter at 815-464-7298 or visit its website. Looking for more adoptable pets? Gus, an orange domestic…
