Tinley Park High School students enjoyed refreshments and dancing at Chicago's Union Station during the school's prom on Friday. Check out images from the event and share your own photos and videos.
Tinley Park High School students enjoyed their moment in time on Friday, May 17, as juniors, seniors and their guests took part in the school's prom. The event, which took place at Chicago's Union Station, featured music, food and merriment for all in attendance at the annual event. Decked out in suits, tuxes and the finest of dresses, attendees danced the night away to music spun by Show on the Road Productions, featuring Top 40 hits, classics and everything in between. Attendees also enjoyed food from Little Italy and Little Village while taking a break from cutting a rug, as well. The entire event, which was sponsored by the TPHS junior class, lasted for mere hours, but it left lasting memories for students who will always remember, "A …

We called on our Facebook fans from across the south suburbs to share their experiences dealing with the expenses of a modern-day prom.
For some, prom is the apex of the high school experience—a magical night to be looked back on with nostalgia for years to come. Others will recount it as a well-dressed ten-ton credit-munching beast with an insatiable appetite. Like Matt L., our Tinley Park Patch Facebook friend who needed several years to pay his parents off his parents for a prom loan. Or Angie S. from Oak Lawn, who budgeted $1,000 for her daughters’ proms (and she’s not the exception). Now that we’re in the heart of prom season, we were curious to hear about the financial impact prom has on the typical south suburban family. How much does the average local family spend on a prom, and who foots the bill? Mom and dad, or the teens? We asked our Facebook fans across the …

As a New Jersey principal takes flak from parents for banning strapless dresses from a school dance, we ask our Facebook friends how they feel about the attire issue.
Do you think the constitution protects your daughter’s right to expose her bare shoulders at a school dance? Some New Jersey parents are arguing it does in response to a principal’s unpopular decision to ban strapless dresses from a junior high school dance, reports the Chicago Tribune. The principal called strapless dresses "distracting" to boys. One New Jersey teenager fought the ban, stating in a letter, "Basically by saying 'it distracts the boys' you're also saying that it is our fault on how they control their own behavior." With prom season around the corner, dresses are a hot topic right now. We asked Southland Patch Facebook fans to share their feelings on kids, dances and clothing. Here's a sample of what we heard. Tomorrow night is Tinley Park High School's prom, "A Red Carpet Affair." Here are some themes you're glad they didn't go with.
Tomorrow night is Tinley Park High School's 2011 senior prom, "A Red Carpet Affair." Great theme for a prom. Very classy, fun and such. Makes kids feel like the rock stars they are. That is a very cool prom theme. These five aren't. TELEKINETIC SPACEKS UNDER THE STARS It's a dated reference, so kids, be sure to say "Carrie prom scene" to your parents and watch them shudder just a little. PRE-RAPTURE DANCE PARTY 2011 Prom is a night you'll remember for the rest of your life, which, according to Christian radio host Harold Camping, should be about a day. Yes, according to Camping, the Rapture will be on Saturday. So depending on which time zone the End of Days starts in, it could come mid-dance for the Titans prom. Granted, Camping also …

Was it worth months of toiling and expenses? Senior Austin Gomez decides whether or not VJA's prom was a flop.
All month, Andrew High School senior Austin Gomez has been charting his prom preparation, from nabbing a date via YouTube over to picking a boring but socially appropriate tux all the way to the last-minute checklist the day of the dance. With the prom over, Austin looks back to see if all the time and money ($200 for tickets alone) was worth it. ... A week or so before prom, I honestly felt the probability of buyer’s remorse was high. Sure, high school dances are fun and all, but after a while, I began to feel as if they became obligations for being a high school student. It's sort of like when the nice ladies at Costco beckon out for unsuspecting customers to try their free samples; I know I can just continue my wholesale experience, but…
