Bald Man Steals Rogaine: Blotter

SUNDAY, APRIL 21 A driver called into Tinley Park police to complain about another driver who showed a handgun near the intersection of 159th Street and 84th Avenue, according to a report. The gun-wielding driver was “all over the roadway” and cut off the caller. When the caller approached the vehicle, the other driver pulled out what was either a 9mm or Beretta handgun. TUESDAY, APRIL 16 Two women took $250 worth of lotion, gel and cream from Bath and Body Works, 16035 S. Harlem Ave., according to a report. They left in a green Nissan Altima at around 9:46 a.m. No arrests were reported. Car Reported Stolen to Get Someone's Attention: Blotter

Tinley Park police reports, April 10-13 • Midlothian man charged with marijuana possession • Hobby paint stolen • Camara taken after car break-in.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13 Police found a 1992 Cadillac El Dorado that had been reported stolen from Chicago in a parking lot at Odyssey Fun World, 19111 S. Oak Park Ave., according to a report. The registered owner told Tinley Park police he sold it to a friend, but the registration had not yet transferred. The car had started to accumulate parking tickets, which were being sent to the previous owner, the report stated. SATURDAY, MARCH 23 Benjamin Lee Anderson, 34, of the 1500 block of South Cherry Creek Lane in Warsaw, IN, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and driving without insurance, according to a report. Police were called at about 3:47 a.m. to the 6600 block of 175th Street by someone claiming a Buick was parked in his front lawn. The same person called back a short time later to say the car was driving away and that he was following. Police caught up to the Buick, driven by Anderson, on 175th Street, according to the report. Anderson told police he thought he was in “East Chicago or somewhere east of there” and had drunken “about 10 beers” and “a couple shots, too” over the …

Laughing Driver Draws DUI Charge: Blotter

Tinley Park police reports, March 14-16 • Don't forget the phone chargers, too • Cash box stolen from business.

SATURDAY, MARCH 16 Tadeusz Tylka, 44, of the 7200 block of 173rd Street in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and improper lane use, according to a report. Tylka was seen striking the curb twice by an officer at about 2:21 a.m. on Harlem Avenue, near 171st Street. During a traffic stop, the officer noted Tylka’s bloodshot, watery eyes and a smell of alcohol coming from his breath. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests, during which he was laughing and “very talkative.” He was arrested, taken to the Tinley Park Police Department and given a breath test. Crime Reports: Lockers Broken Into at Fitness Center

Tinley Park Police reports, Dec. 22-Jan. 1 • Cashiers were arrested for underringing at Target • Counterfeit $100 bills passed • Burglars steal three TVs and leave message for homeowners.

FRIDAY, DEC. 28 The locks were cut off of three lockers on Dec. 28 at LA Fitness, 18400 Convention Center Dr. in Tinley Park. One victim reported the theft of $250 in cash, the second victim reported a wallet with $250 cash and credit cards was missing, and the third victim reported nothing missing from his locker.  On Jan. 2, an Air Force Academy cadet home for the holidays reported the theft of $100 from his locker at the fitness center. On Dec. 16, a woman discovered her wallet had been taken from a locker at the fitness center when she received an alert on her cell phone that someone was trying to make an $1,800 purchase at the Apple store in Orland Square Mall. Mug shots that are excluded are those that don't have charges attached or those that deal with infractions we don't report (unless they're part of other charges), such as driving with a suspended license. Busted! Being Short on Cash Comes Up Short as Excuse for Taking Store Items

Patch uncovers some of the stranger Tinley Park Police reports. In this edition, a Richton Park teen tells police she took merchandise without paying for it because she had no money. Except for the $63 in her purse.

Busted! takes a look at the more unusual reports that the men and women of the Tinley Park Police Department respond to. Names have been withheld to protect the innocent, the guilty and the embarrassed. Trying to gain sympathy from law enforcement after breaking the law has become an acceptable, if somewhat questionable, practice to avoid or lessen punishment. Think tearful pleadings during a traffic stop for speeding. However, you should always think your sob story out. For instance, if your reason for walking out of a store with merchandise you didn't pay for is because you're broke, make sure you're not carrying around enough cash to just about cover the items.
