FRIDAY, NOV. 16 Belguutei Budbayasgalan, 20, of the 6300 block of Pine Ridge Drive, was charged with felony unlawful exploitation of an elderly person after stealing three checks for stealing and cashing three personal checks worth almost $13,000 from the woman he had been caring for as a health care worker for nine months, according to a police report. Budbayasgalan told investigators the used the $12,940 from the checks to pay for the down payment on a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro that he wanted to buy for his birthday, the report stated. FRIDAY, OCT. 5 An unidentified man took off without paying for more than $400 of over-the-counter medication from Jewel, 17177 S. Harlem Ave., according to the police report. A man with a shaved head, wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved black shirt, entered the store at 10:09 a.m. and put 12 boxes of Prilosec OTC (valued at $24.99 a box) and five boxes of Claritin Tabs (valued at $21.99 a box) into a transparent plastic bag that he put in a shopping cart, the report stated. The man then left the cart at the exit and took the bag of medicine with him as he left the store at 10:17 a.m., the report continued. THURSDAY, OCT. 11 Neven Samy Rizk Abdelmalak, 25, of the 7100 block of West 166th Street, was charged with retail theft after being arrested for stealing almost $235 worth of merchandise from Kohl's, 7500 W. 191st St. Abdelmalak was with the store's loss prevention agent when officers arrived at around 3:01 p.m., the report stated. The agent told police Abdelmalak came into Kohl's around 4:40 p.m., pushing her infant child in a stroller. Abdelmalak then picked out various jewelry, perfumes and clothing and went into a changing area, the report continued. A Harvey woman who was arrested for stealing almost $350 in Nike shoes and other merchandise from Kohl's on Sept. 8 was caught wearing a pair of underwear she also had lifted, according to Tinley Park Police reports. Brenda Louise Scott, 50, of the 15500 block of South Center Street in Harvey, was charged with felony retail theft. She is still being held at Will County Jail on $25,000 bond, and her court date for this case is Oct. 1 in Joliet. Police arrested a man last week who they said was caught cleaning out the cosmetics aisle in a local grocery store. Then, he reportedly made a run for it.
Tinley Park police were called to a local grocery store last week for a report of a man shoplifting more than $1,000 worth of Loreal, Revlon, Maybeline, Redkin and Covergirl cosmetics before sprinting from the store and into a getaway car. Andino Medina III, 36, of the 8100 block of South Scottsdale Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. May 3. Employees at Jewel-Osco, 17117 S. Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, said they saw Medina filling two bags with items in the cosmetics aisle. Included on the list of 113 stolen products were 26 eyeliner pencils, 62 Loreal cosmetics of various types and a pair of sunglasses. TUESDAY, NOV. 29 A resident of the 8300 block of 162nd Place in Tinley Park called police after she found a gnome in her driveway. The tiny elf statue was beside a deer and a bucket and was made of concrete, according to the report. The gnome did not belong to the woman, though she'd had several stolen a couple of months ago. The resident said the gnome was left in the driveway sometime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday. But on Wednesday, the resident learned that her friend had placed the gnome in her driveway. Cops nabbed a local man last week who they said put up a fight after stealing from a hardware store.
Tinley Park police arrested a man last week who tried to make off with a drill bit from Menard's and then ran from a store security guard, according to the report. Vincent T. Loaicono, 19, of the 5600 block of West 171st Street in Tinley Park, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. Thursday and charged with battery and retail theft. Police said Loaicono was spotted removing a drill bit from its packaging and hiding it in his sleeve. He then accompanied a friend who was buying something from the store and left without paying for the tool, the report said.
