Hoosier Driver Tells Tinley Cop He's in 'East Chicago or Somewhere': Blotter

Tinley Park police reports, March 21-23 • Richton Park man buys food at Culver's with fake $50 • Homer Glen woman hides merchandise in a mattress pad • Shoplifter gets away in a Buick.

SATURDAY, MARCH 23 Benjamin Lee Anderson, 34, of the 1500 block of South Cherry Creek Lane in Warsaw, IN, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and driving without insurance, according to a report. Police were called at about 3:47 a.m. to the 6600 block of 175th Street by someone claiming a Buick was parked in his front lawn. The same person called back a short time later to say the car was driving away and that he was following. Police caught up to the Buick, driven by Anderson, on 175th Street, according to the report. Anderson told police he thought he was in “East Chicago or somewhere east of there” and had drunken “about 10 beers” and “a couple shots, too” over the …

Man Accused of Shoplifting $1,000 in Makeup

Police arrested a man last week who they said was caught cleaning out the cosmetics aisle in a local grocery store. Then, he reportedly made a run for it.

Tinley Park police were called to a local grocery store last week for a report of a man shoplifting more than $1,000 worth of Loreal, Revlon, Maybeline, Redkin and Covergirl cosmetics before sprinting from the store and into a getaway car.  Andino Medina III, 36, of the 8100 block of South Scottsdale Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. May 3. Employees at Jewel-Osco, 17117 S. Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, said they saw Medina filling two bags with items in the cosmetics aisle. Included on the list of 113 stolen products were 26 eyeliner pencils, 62 Loreal cosmetics of various types and a pair of sunglasses. With the holidays often comes an influx in retail theft arrests. But Tinley Park officers said this past week that they're uncertain if that increase is because people are shoplifting more frequently, or because loss prevention employees are on higher alert due to the busy shopping season. Whatever the reason, here's a breakdown of the recent arrests. Some of the items people were reportedly stealing may surprise you. TUESDAY, DEC. 20 Police arrested Edward D. Wright, 50, of the first block of Candlegate Drive in Matteson around 1:20 p.m. and charged him with one count of retail theft. Wright was caught by loss prevention officers at Jewel-Osco, 17117 S. Man Accused of Battery After Trying to Evade a Loss Prevention Officer, Police Say

Cops nabbed a local man last week who they said put up a fight after stealing from a hardware store.

Tinley Park police arrested a man last week who tried to make off with a drill bit from Menard's and then ran from a store security guard, according to the report. Vincent T. Loaicono, 19, of the 5600 block of West 171st Street in Tinley Park, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. Thursday and charged with battery and retail theft. Police said Loaicono was spotted removing a drill bit from its packaging and hiding it in his sleeve. He then accompanied a friend who was buying something from the store and left without paying for the tool, the report said. When stopped by a loss prevention officer, Loaicono reportedly handed over the merchandise but refused to join her in the security office. "(The loss prevention officer) then placed her hand on …

Police: Man Stuffed Pellet Guns in His Pants at Kmart

Tinley Park police arrested a Park Forest man who they said was caught shoplifting.

Tinley Park police arrested a Park Forest man who they said stuffed more than $400 worth of merchandise—including two pellet guns—into his pants before leaving the local Kmart store. James J. Churchill, 26, of the 100 block of Elm Street in Park Forest, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Kmart at 16300 S. Harlem Ave., in Tinley Park. He was charged with one misdemeanor count of retail theft. Loss prevention officers called Tinley Park police after they said they watched Churchill remove several items from their packaging so he could get them past security sensors. Churchill sliced his hand while opening one of the packages, which was later taken into evidence, police said. Churchill admitted to the theft when asked by police, …

Police Blotter: Smackdown at Odyssey Fun World; Woman Accused of Stealing Copper Pipes from Menard's

SUNDAY, SEPT. 18 Police were called to Odyssey Fun World, 19111 Oak Park Ave., in Tinley Park, around 4:30 p.m., after a woman reportedly hit another woman in the arcade game area. Police said Jaynell D. Richardson, 22, of the 9700 block of South Avenue M in Chicago, smacked a 38-year-old woman in the face with the back of her hand. The two had an argument while playing arcade games, the report said. Richardson was arrested and charged with battery. Her bail was set at $1,500. Eric J. Jackson, 32, of the 100 block of East Chebanse Street in Chebanse, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. at the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office on a warrant out of the Tinley Park Police Department for violating an order of protection. His bail was set at $100,000. …
