Sandburg wrestling standout Ricky Robertson outpolled five others in voting for Patch Athlete of the Week, Dec. 11-17. Now, he is eligible for December Patch Athlete of the Month recognition. The candidates were: Brad Foster, senior, center, boys basketball, Lincoln-Way Central. Foster scored 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots in a 47-43 victory over district rival Lincoln-Way West. Stagg 41, Andrew 32: The Chargers' stingy defense limited the T-Bolts to 12 second-half points and proved to be decisive in a battle between Southwest Suburban Red rivals.
The Skinny: In a game that was close from the opening tip, it seemed like whoever got a big run would go on to win, and that's exactly what happened as Stagg topped Andrew 41-32 on Tuesday night in a battle between Southwest Suburban Red rivals. Stagg's 6-0 scoring run to start the second half didn't seem like much at the time, but it was key in the Chargers' victory because Stagg's defense limited Andrew to 12 second-half points. Patch MVP: Stagg's Maggie Yandel had nine points, eight rebounds and six steals. Four of those steals were key in Stagg's 6-0 scoring run to start the second half. The Skinny: In rolling to a 61-45 home victory Monday night, Andrew moved the ball up the court quickly to score several easy baskets early. The Thunderbolts turned a 6-4 deficit into a 14-6 lead thanks to a 10-0 run, highlighted by a putback from Nicole Botich with 2:58 left in the opening quarter. Tinley Park tried to rally, trailing 32-22 at halftime, but the Titans couldn't close the deficit to less than eight points in the second half.
