That's what Patch wanted to know about the weekend event at the Tinley Park Convention Center. Find out what a representative from the expo had to say.
In its second year coming to Tinley Park, the Women's Expo invites attendees to learn more about a variety of business exhibitors, as well as expand their awareness on women's health issues. And it's about having a fun weekend, too. Patch asked Sally Goss, the Women's Expo's media manager, for five reasons why the event is important and matters to women. Here's what she had to say. 1. A day at the Women’s Expo is a day women can have for themselves. 2. A Chance to Try Something New: Women can ask exhibitors questions, see demonstrations and try samples in a …

“I’ve been looking forward to this for years,” said Mike Houston, 46, of Palos Hills, after he was the first customer at Peppo’s Dili-Deli in Tinley Park when it opened at 9:30 a.m. Friday at 6905 W. 159th St. “I thought they should have expanded years ago,” said Houston who added he was carrying on a family tradition regarding Peppo’s, which opened in Palos Hills in 1976. “I’m standing in for my brother Dan,” said Houston. “He was the first customer in 1976. He would have been here for this today but he had to work.” “I plan on being the first customer at their next location, too,” he said. So what makes Peppo’s so great. “The guts,” said Houston echoed immediately by the three other people sitting at his table. “You have to eat the sub …

Chain link fences that went up recently near the McDonald’s restaurant at 171st Street and Harlem Avenue in the Tinley Park Commons shopping center are a precursor to two projects planned for that area. First, Chase Bank is building a 3,800-square-foot facility in front of McDonald’s with an estimated price tag of $2.5 million. According to plans, the bank will feature two drive-through lanes and a drive-up ATM, and is expected to have eight to 10 employees. “It will be the first Chase Bank within the village limits,” said Ivan Baker, Tinley Park’s economic development director. Second, three vacant storefronts in the strip center next to the McDonald’s will be demolished to replace parking spaces being taken by the bank. One of the …
