The Illinois Department of Human Rights has found “substantial evidence” of discrimination after Officer Rudy Rosillo filed complaints alleging racism and ageism, according to a report.
The Illinois Department of Human Rights found evidence that the Tinley Park Police Department discriminated against one of its officer when he applied for a task force position in 2011, the Chicago Tribune reports. Officer Rudy Rosillo filed a discrimination complaint in April 2012, the Tribune reports. In the complaint, Rosillo claims the department chose a less-qualified candidate for a position on a Customs/ICE Task Force in December 2011 and that he was discriminated against because of his Hispanic ancestry. Police are investigating a string of thefts that left local businesses hot and bothered.
Tinley Park police are investigating the theft of more than 30 air conditioners in three communities that have disappeared in the night. In the past two months, about 35 air conditioners have been stolen from Tinley Park, Oak Forest and Orland Park during the overnight hours, according to police reports. In Tinley Park, eight of the units were taken from between the 5100 and 8000 blocks of 159th Street. About 20 total of the 35 stolen units were taken from Tinley Park locations, according to police. Tinley Park police have conducted at leat one extended stake out of businesses in the village in response to the thefts. In several of the heists, power cables were cut on the units. Tinley Park police spotted a driver lighting up on a day known for smoking marijuana, according to a report.
A Frankfort woman received a shock when a cop caught her smoking a bowl on April 20, according to police. An officer spotted a woman, 26, driving a Scion TC and allegedly lighting a device used for smoking marijuana, according to a Tinley Park police report. The cop was approaching a red light in the 16700 block of Oak Park Avenue when he pulled alongside the Scion and noticed the passenger side window was open, according to the report. The Tinley Park intermediate school was in lockdown as police apprehended a boy with a pellet gun Thursday afternoon. No was hurt, and police say the incident is being handled as a juvenile case.
Hilda Walker Intermediate School was in lockdown Thursday afternoon, and a 15-year-old boy with a pellet gun was taken in to custody after Tinley Park police received a 911 call from a school staffer, according to village and school officials. A 911 call around 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, reported someone with a gun was seen around the back of Hilda Walker School, said Pat Carr, director of Tinley Park's Emergency Management Agency. A school staff member witnessed the teen with the pellet gun near a park and water retention area behind the school, said Tinley Park Police Chief Steve Neubauer.
