Tinley Park police reports, Feb. 7–8.
FRIDAY, FEB. 8 Police were called to an apartment in the 16700 block of S. Gentry Lane, after a resident reported a burglary. A woman returned home from work to find her television missing from her bedroom. Police secured the apartment and then spoke with the victim, who said she did not want an evidence technician to come to the home and dust for prints. Officers noticed no signs of forced entry to the apartment. Thomas Sheehy, 46, of the 7400 block of W. 162nd Place, was charged with domestic battery, after allegedly grabbing a woman by the collar and shaking her. Christopher K. Scott, 32, of Orland Park, is charged with a felony charge of retail theft, after he attempted to steal more than $1,000 worth of alcohol from Super Kmart in Tinley Park.
An Orland Park man faces a felony charge of retail theft, after he tried to steal approximately $1,300 worth of alcohol from Super Kmart, 16300 S. Harlem Avenue, on Jan. 30. Christopher K. Scott, 32, of the 15800 block of S. Centennial Drive, Orland Park, was charged with felony retail theft after he left Super Kmart with 37 bottles of hard alcohol from the store around 9:10 p.m., according to reports. Cameras captured the theft on film, employees told police; the footage shows Scott shopping for the alcohol and then exiting without paying. An employee said he followed Scott out of the store and ordered him to return the items to the store, which he did, before fleeing the scene on foot. FRIDAY, FEB. 1 A victim came to the Tinley Park Police Department to report an incident of credit card fraud. The man told police he received a bill for $75 from a bank in Delaware. The victim said he had never filed to open a card at the bank. Police spoke with bank officials, who said that somebody must have used the victim's personal information to open the account. The man canceled the card and the bank is currently investigating the matter. WEDNESDAY, JAN. 30 Police were called to Best Buy, 7330 W. 191st Street, for a report of grand theft at the store. SUNDAY, FEB. 3 Police were called to a residence in the 8100 block of W. 168th Place, after a victim reported their car was stolen over night. A man told police that his car—which held roughly $1,500 in U.S. savings bonds, dozens of CDs and a Tom Tom GPS—was stolen from the parking lot. The approximate value of everything in the car was about $2,000, according to the report. Police investigated the scene, but could find no distinguishing tire tracks or evidence in the parking lot. A Tinley Park man faces several charges, including drunken driving, after crashing his car into a tree in the 15900 block of Ashford Court. The man told police that a female acquaintance was driving at the time of the crash, but fled the scene.
A Tinley Park man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his car hit a tree near 160th and Ashford Court in the early morning hours of Jan. 27. Jose Torres, 39, of the 15900 block of Ashford Court, told police two different stories of who was driving—first admitting that he was the driver, then saying a female acquaintance was behind the wheel. Police were dispatched to the scene after a resident called a report of a car hitting a tree. Officers found Torres and two others standing around a car that had struck a tree. Torres, who had dried blood on his mouth and nose, stepped forward and admitted to being behind the wheel. MONDAY, JAN. 28 Kevin Efran Monoy, 19, of the 1200 block of Park Avenue, Chicago Heights, was charged with retail theft after a Jan. 14 incident. Police were called by Matteson police officers, who told Tinley Park officers that Monoy was in custody on suspicion of retail theft at Target in Matteson. While in custody, Monoy admitted to a similar theft of a prepaid cell phone at the Tinley Park Target, 7300 W. 191st Street. While in Tinley Park police custody, Monoy said he was taking the phones to sell, so that he could use the money to visit a sick relative. A Matteson man faces several charges, including drunken driving, after crashing his car on Oak Park Avenue and calling his mother for a ride home, police said.
A 26-year-old Matteson man arrested near the scene of a Jan. 26 accident faces drunken driving charges after police spotted him trying to get away in his mom's car. A resident called police after hearing a loud crash and a man yelling at around 4:15 a.m. near Oak Park Avenue and 172nd Street. Police found a black Hyundai Santa Fe blocking the southbound lane of Oak Park Avenue.
