Police Blotter: 2 Men Go Fishing for Rent Checks at Local Apartment Building

WEDNESDAY, MAY 11 Someone smashed the window of a car parked near the intersection of 67th Avenue and 172nd Street between 10:15 p.m. May 10 and 12:45 a.m. May 11 and stole a Garmin GPS, police said. SUNDAY, MAY 8 Someone used a Tinley Park woman’s First Midwest Bank debit card information to make several fraudulent purchases, police said. The purchases included $147.85 at a liquor store in St. John, Ind., on May 7 and, on May 8, $602.23 at a Staples and $867.59 at a Walmart, both in Mount Prospect, police said. SATURDAY, MAY 7 Someone used a Tinley Park woman’s First Midwest Bank debit card information to make $406.72 of purchases at a Joliet Walmart and $675.17 at a Bolingbrook Walmart between 9 and 10:20 p.m. May 7, police said. UPDATED: Funeral Set for Annabella Loerop, 4, Killed by Car in Tinley Park

Tinley Park girl was killed Monday after being struck by a car.

The funeral for Annabella Renee “Bella” Loerop, 4, of Tinley Park, has been set for 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, at Orland Park Christian Reformed Church, 7500 Sycamore Drive, Orland Park. A visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave., Orland Park. The total value of the cigarettes was $300, police said. SATURDAY, MAY 7 Someone broke off the top of a curbside mailbox at a home on the 8800 block of Glenshire Street, Tinley Park, at 11:40 p.m. May 7, police said. Tinley Park Home Prices Drop 5.2% in Cook County

Single-family home prices fell last year in 238 of 252 Chicago-area zip codes tracked by Fiserv Inc., according to a Crain's Chicago Business report.

Home prices in Tinley Park's 60477 ZIP code dropped 5.2 percent last year, but that's far from the biggest drop in the Chicago region. According to Crain's Chicago Business, 238 of 252 Chicago-area zip codes tracked by Fiserv Inc. saw their home prices fall in 2010, with the overall drop being about 5.2 percent. In a video covering the prices drops, a Crain's reporter said the biggest declines were in the city's southside neighborhoods. South suburban Harvey suffered the biggest drop at 19.6 percent. Here's a breakdown of local towns. The Crain's report said there was insufficient data for Tinley Park's 60487 ZIP.

UPDATED: 4-Year-Old Tinley Park Girl Killed After Car Crash

The girl was struck at about 4 p.m. Monday night on the 6500 block of 175th Street, police said.

A 4-year-old Tinley Park girl was killed Monday night after being struck by a car police said was driven by a 16-year-old boy, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said. The crash took place at about 4 p.m. Monday on the 6500 block of 175th Street, Tinley Park police said. Accident investigators were still on the scene at 7 p.m. At that time, the road was still closed off between 64th Court and 66th Avenue. Neither Tinley Park nor Cook County released the names of the driver and the girl. This story will be updated as more information is made available. Updated at 8:28 p.m. with confirmation of death and correction of age. Early police reports had the girl's age as 5.

Many lives affected by this tragedy. Praying for all the families involved. As a mother of a 16 year old, who is learning how to drive now, I pray that this young man can somehow find peace with himself. I also pray for the family of beautiful young Bella, I cannot imagine losing a child. God does indeed have a plan for her. Everyone please pray for these families.   more ›

Business Evolution: Tinley Company Went From Typewriters to High-Tech Office Equipment

From typewriters to copiers, one local company is standing the test of time and generations.

Martin Whalen Office Solutions’ showroom in their Tinley Park headquarters, 18630 S. 81st Ave., is stocked with wall-to-wall equipment, a far cry from the two typewriters that started the company more than 70 years ago. Joseph McGrath started McGrath Office Equipment in 1936 with two typewriters. He learned how to fix typewriters as a trade after only receiving a grade-school education.
