Vandals Smash Lawn Lighting

Don't let troublemakers get away with wrecking your lawn. Report property crime to the Tinley Park Police Department.

Decorative lawn lighting in the 17700 block of 71st Avenue was damaged or stolen on May 8, according to reports. Three landscaping lights were removed sometime between 1 a.m. and 3 p.m. from the front yard and thrown at a window of one home, denting the window casing. The window screen also was torn. Around the same time, a decorative light police in the front yard of a neighbor was pushed over, according to report. The light at the top of the pole was broken. Graffiti Artist Paints 'Mona Lisa' on Service Box

The black-paint reproduction of one of Lenardo da Vinci's most famous works has been removed from its makeshift canvas near McDonald's on Harlem Avenue.

It’s not exactly the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, but one criminal artist turned a service box into a canvas. An image of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa was painted onto a utility service box near McDonald’s, 17171 S. Harlem Ave., according to a report. Police said stenciling and black paint were used. The defacement was located on the south-facing side of the box and has since been removed. READ: Police Want Your Help in Catching AC Thieves Police said the service box houses AT&T cable boxes. I agree Gary there is a HUGE electrical box on 167th near the park that could be turned into a piece of art. I would even donate to the Vogt art center or high school if they wanted to paint it. Just because you paint them green doesn't camouflage them as an eye soar :)   more ›

SUNDAY, APRIL 21 A driver called into Tinley Park police to complain about another driver who showed a handgun near the intersection of 159th Street and 84th Avenue, according to a report. The gun-wielding driver was “all over the roadway” and cut off the caller. When the caller approached the vehicle, the other driver pulled out what was either a 9mm or Beretta handgun. Handgun Disappears From Tinley Park Home: Blotter

TUESDAY, MARCH 12 A 19-year-old Chicago Heights woman lost two gold-and-diamond rings while at work, according to a Tinley Park Police report. She told police she removed the rings while at her work station at Regency Beauty, 15931 Harlem Ave. The woman knocked the rings to the ground but didn’t pick them up immediately, the report stated. When the woman went to retrieve the rings later, she found that they had gone missing, the report continued. She and several students who work there searched the entire shop but were unable to find the rings. The report lists the value of the rings at $500. Blotter: Woman Hit With More Than $1,300 in Fraudulent Credit Card Charges

Tinley Park Police reports, Sept. 25-30 • Stolen purse and bag returned, minus credit cards and 2 laptops • Retaining wall thrown through laundry room window • Woman's purse stolen from car as she mails letter.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 30 A tan purse and a Dooney & Bourke bag containing two laptop computers were taken from an unlocked car parked in the driveway of a house in the 9000 block of Linden Drive. The purse and bag, which belonged to a 23-year-old Orland Park woman, were found the same day by a village resident in the middle of Nielson Drive, minus the two laptops and two credit cards, according to police reports. Police returned the bags to the owner, who said she canceled the credit cards, the report said. The computers that were missing were a Toshiba laptop valued at $600 and a ThinkPad laptop, which did not have a value indicated in the report. SATURDAY, SEPT. 22 Daniela Griffin, 24, of the 14500 block of South Pulaski Road, was charged with reckless conduct after she got into a fight with a fellow employee at Sam's Club, 16100 S. Harlem Ave. Tinley Park Police responded to a call around 1:47 p.m. of a fight in the meat department at the wholesale shopping club between Griffin and Breauna A. Harris, 21, of Chicago, both employees at the store. Griffin told police she was in the meat department, cutting pork chops, when Harris approached her with two large spoons in her hands and started arguing, the report stated. Griffin said she thought Harris was going to hit her with a spoon and raised her arms to protect herself, accidentally cutting Harris' nose with the knife she was using…

Perpetrators Pour Paint on School Lot

Vandals recently spilled roofing paint in the parking lot of an area elementary school and stole down spouts and other equipment from an area junior high, Will County Sheriff's reports said.

Vandals damaged two Summit Hill School District 161 schools the last week in June, according to Will County Sheriff's Office reports. Thirteen gallons of silver roofing paint was spilled onto the parking lot and walking path of Frankfort Square Elementary School on Tuesday, June 26, the report stated. Vandals Scratch Swears, Lines Into 27 Vehicles

Police say a vandal, or vandals, targeted 27 cars, trucks and vans in Tinley Park over the weekend, carving words like "gay" and "a--hole" into their hoods, trunks and side panels. All were parked in the same general area, according to the report.

In a less-than eight hour overnight window, police say someone scratched random symbols, lines and curse words into 27 vehicles that were parked within the village. The damage translated into 19 police reports being filed at the Tinley Park Police Department detailing marks that a vandal, or vandals, scratched into the vehicles between roughly midnight and 7 a.m.  Sign up to receive breaking news alerts from Tinley Park Patch. Police: Feud Between Peers Leads to Vandalism; Couple Stuffs Copper Wire in Purse, Jacket

Also in the latest batch of Tinley Park police reports, a man is accused of drunken driving after leaving a family party, a perfume thief targets Ulta and a man is reportedly caught with syringes. These incidents occurred March 8-11.

SUNDAY, MARCH 11 A woman living in the 7600 block of Rosefield Terrace in Tinley Park called police after finding that someone had punctured the tires on three of her vehicles and spray-painted her garage door, house and front door. The woman said her daughter has been fighting with another woman who she believes is the culprit. That woman, a 24-year-old, threatened to go to the home earlier that day to "do damage," according to the report. Several derogatory phrases, like "dumb b---- scary ho" and "---- yo mama" were graffitied, the report said. No charges had yet been filed as of Monday.
