Tinley Park Wins 6th Straight Award for National Night Out

This year's event, which spotlights crime, drug and violence prevention and awareness, was one of only three in the state to be honored by the National Association of Town Watch.

The Village of Tinley Park earned a National Night Out Award for 2012 from the National Association of Town Watch, the sixth consecutive year for the village, according to a village press release. Tinley Park's event, which is the local component of a national crime, drug and violence prevention and awareness program, was one of only three towns from Illinois to win in its category, the release stated. Tree Lighting Kicks Off Holiday Season in Village (Video)

Although the weather outside might be the opposite of frightful this weekend—temperatures could be in the 50s and 60s—the Village of Tinley Park is letting residents know the holiday season has arrived with events and activities that run through Sunday. The festivities began Friday, Nov. 30, with the official tree lighting and the opening of the Holiday Market. Check out the video in the media gallery for highlights of the ceremony. Yes, Tinley Park does spend some money to have this event for the residents, and if you have ever seen the smiles on the faces of the children and parents, I believe it is worth it. This weekend is mostly pit on by Volunteers, who give ubselfishly of their time so their community can share in the Christmas Spirit. National Night Out Takes Over Zabrocki Plaza

Hundreds turn out for the annual National Night Out along Oak Park Avenue.

After moving from Harlem to Oak Park Avenue this year, organizers were happy Tuesday with the turnout at Tinley Park's annual National Night Out Against Crime. Hundreds of people at Zabrocki Plaza in downtown Tinley near the Oak Park Avenue Train Station got free pizza, free ice cram, free insurance quotes and so much more during the evening-long event. Thank you for attending National Night Out which was the largest attended in the past seven years. Visitors were able to visit with Police Officers, Animal Control, EMA, Fire Fighters and Public Works and view their vehicles.
