Car Break-In Only Results in Tossed Papers: Police Blotter

Tinley Park police reports, Feb. 12-14 • Parked car goes missing the next day • iPhone taken from health club locker room.

THURSDAY, FEB. 14 Police were called to a home in the 16400 block of Brementowne Drive, after a victim reported their car was broken into. The victim told police that the car was broken in to and papers were thrown about. But nothing appeared to be taken, the victim stated. Police told the victim a report would be filed. Police were notified of a car possibly stolen in the 8000 block of Enclave Lane on Friday, Feb. 8. The victim said she left her car on the street because of construction and when she returned the next day, the car was gone. Police checked with other area agencies, but could not locate the car. Mapping it Out: August Vehicle Break-ins, Damage

We've plotted for you the local vehicle break-ins and damage that was reported in the month of August.

Between Aug. 1 and Sept. 2, 13 cases of burglary and/or damage to vehicles were reported to Tinley Park Police. Seven of those instances were exclusively damage while the remaining six included thefts, and sometimes damage. This past month's numbers were staggeringly lower than July's—there were 40 fewer such reports, to be exact. But July statistics were inflated because of an evening of vandalism July 7 in Tinley Park that spanned four streets—167th Place, Grissom Drive, and 82nd and 80th avenues—and left 27 vehicles heavily damaged. Car break-ins can and do happen everywhere. Between March 15 and April 28, a total of 28 cases of burglary and/or damage to vehicles were reported to Tinley Park police. Ten of those instances were exclusively damage while the remaining 18 included thefts, and sometimes damage. Police Blotter: Woman Throws Fit Over Punctured Tire; Jeep Window Shattered

TUESDAY, SEPT. 20 A 30-year-old Tinley Park woman called police to report that someone had opened a T-Mobile account in her name without her permission. The woman said employees from the cell phone company told her the account was opened over the phone using her name, shipping and billing address, Social Security number and birth date. The spelling of her name and address the suspect provided were incorrect, she told police. She was first contacted by T-Mobile on Sept. 13, according to the Sept. 20 report. A woman who parked her car in the 17500 block of South Sandalwood Drive said that between 6 p.m. Sept. 19 and 7 a.m. Sept. 20, someone punctured the rear, passenger-side tire of her 2003 Toyota Corolla. Police Blotter: Bottle Breaks Window; Disappearing Credit Cards

Tinley Park police reports, Sept. 11, 14-15.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 15 A custodian said that sometime between 2:30 p.m. Sept. 14 and 1:30 p.m. Sept. 15, someone threw an empty glass bottle of liquor at a window at Walker Intermediate School, 19900 S. 80th Ave., Tinley Park. The bottle broke the window, according to the report, and damage will cost about $200. A 57-year-old woman who was pumping gas at Speedway, 7201 W. 183rd St., told Tinley police that two of her credit cards were missing after she left the station. The cards were last seen hanging from her clothing in an "alligator clip" around 2 p.m., the report said. Tinley Police Question Suspicious Bike Riders

Police brought two men into the station for questioning this week after a woman said she saw them looking for unlocked cars.

A 26-year-old man and a 32-year-old Tinley Park man were taken to the Tinley Park Police Department for questioning around midnight, when a woman said she saw them riding their bikes on 180th Street and checking vehicles for unlocked doors. Police found the men shortly after a woman called to report the incident, according to the report. A GPS and a lighter were recovered nearby. The older man denied all involvement in the attempted break-ins, blaming everything on the younger man. The younger man denied everything. Tinley Park Man Admits to Breaking Into Several Cars, Police Say

Police charge man after finding him with a pry bar and numerous items.

A Tinley Park man was arrested over the weekend after police said they connected him with at least four attempted car break-ins on Jean Lane. Adam S. Hofkamp, 25, of the 16600 block of Jean Lane, was charged July 31 with four counts of criminal damage to property after they said he tried to break into at least four vehicles near his apartment. A 58-year-old woman, whose Honda was parked in the area, called police to report that between 6:30 p.m. July 30 and 8:30 a.m. July 31, someone pried the door handle off her vehicle. At the time of her call, police already had Hofkamp in custody after someone spotted him around 1:30 a.m. trying to get into their car, police said. Car Break-ins Squelch Fun Sunday for Visitors to Fun World

Three burglaries were reported at Odyssey Fun World.

Three out-of-towners' vehicles were ransacked Sunday afternoon at Tinley's Odyssey Fun World, where burglars made off with a touch-screen stereo, several credit cards, video games and cell phones. Victims told police that all three break-ins occurred between around noon and 2:30 p.m. in the Fun World parking lot, 19111 S. Oak Park Ave., according to the police report. Between 9 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., police said an employee at the business filed a separate robbery report, saying that someone snagged a cell phone from his belt clip. In one car burglary, a 30-year-old Peotone woman said two AT&T cell phones, a checkbook, three credit cards, an iPod Nano, a collection of about 50 CDs and a security card and $10 cash were missing.
