ReplyLauren,
I feel the same way. I'm not the biggest or most knowledgeable footfall fan, but I root for my sons' football teams loud and proud. There's something about being in the midst of fans supporting and cheering on their own--how can you help but be drawn in? I graduated from a small Catholic high school "on the hill" where our Homecoming revolved around a volleyball game, so I feel I'm experiencing the pomp of Friday nights for the first time.
btw, concession food is yummy! Patch should consider a chowdown of each school's best concession offerings :) -

Point taken Deb. But it's not a case of choosing immigrant's children over a drug addict's children. The DREAM Act is designed to help a specific group--immigrants, and people/organizations/groups make their own choice to fund it and support this particular vision. I do take offense to your comment on giving help "to immigrants, legal or not". Unless you're a native American, my friend, you or your ancestors were at one time, an immigrant.

ReplyPolitics aside, the DREAM Act is an important issue and certainly one that deserves more than a quick yes or no. Undocumented children who entered the United States before their 16th birthday and lived in the States for at least 5 consecutive years (as well as with the grades and gumption to do better) are qualified to receive DREAM funding.
What’s important to consider is how many of these children chose to come to America without documentation? We’re talking about minors who probably had no say, but were following their parents. So should these children be punished for their parents’ poor choices?
Also, funding for DREAM is gathered from private sources and grants, so no need to worry about your tax dollars. But more importantly, I support the DREAM Act, or anything else that helps people improve themselves and their situation. -

ReplyI’m curious-- is the teacher asking for volunteers to do these tasks? Moms and dads should only sign up for what they have time, interest and energy to do. If they feel bullied by the head room mom to do otherwise, they should speak to the teacher directly. I’m willing to bet the teacher does not have a clue of what’s happening behind the scenes.

ReplyYou're spot on, dear blogger. Let's not forget, aside from the qualified teachers at Dist 135, public trumps over private in terms of facilities, extra-curricular opportunities and special education support/therapies.
