Chicago Man Tries to Walk Out With About $750 of Baby Formula: Cops

A Chicago man is accused of trying to get away without paying for more than $750 worth of baby formula last week from Jewel Osco, according to Tinley Park police reports.

Steve Aguirre, 27, of the 1900 block of Shelby Court in Chicago, was arrested Monday, Jan. 6, and charged with felony retail theft.

At around 4:15 p.m., the loss prevention agent at Jewel, 17177 Harlem Ave., saw via security camera Aguirre and an unidentified man fill gift bags with 40 containers of Enfamil powdered baby formula and put them in a cart, the report stated. The unidentified man then left the store, leaving Aguirre with the cart of formula, the report added.

Jewel's loss prevention agent confronted Aguirre as he was leaving the store with the formula, and the two tussled, the report stated. Eventually, Aguirre was handcuffed and brought to the store's security office until police arrived, the report added.

The store valued the amount of formula Aguirre is being accused of trying to walk out with at $753.86, according to the report.

Aguirre told police that he was an unemployed heroin addict who hadn't worked for two months and was going to sell the formula to someone for $100, the report stated.
