K-9 Cop's $40K Settlement With VIllage Will Buy a Lot of Milk-Bones

Tinley Park and the police department's K-9 officer settled a federal lawsuit in April over unpaid overtime, the Chicago Tribune reports. The suit was filed in 2011.

The Village of Tinley Park and the K-9 officer for the Tinley Park Police Department agreed on a $40,000 settlement over a federal lawsuit concerning unpaid overtime, the Chicago Tribune reports, citing a confidential agreement acquired through the Freedom of Information Act.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Sept. 23, 2011, .

While he handled Thor, the village paid Diorio a $2,000 stipend—that’s on top of his $83,096 salary—for being the K-9 officer, according to village documents. Diorio also was reimbursed for nearly $1,500 for pet food and supplies during the 2010 fiscal year, Mayor Ed Zabrocki told Patch in November of 2011.

Village Trustee Brian Maher, who chairs the Public Safety Committee, told the Tribune that the case was settled "at the urging or our insurance carrier" in order to avoid economic risk.

Thor was retired in March.
