Tinley Park Man Had Guns in NIU Dorm Room: Police

A 29-year-old Tinley Park man had a rifle, handgun ammunition and body armor stored in his dorm room, according to reports.

A 29-year-old Tinley Park was arrested Tuesday after police found guns and body armor in his dorm room at Northern Illinois University, the Daily Chronicle reports.

Kevin Ouwenga, of the 16500 block of Fulton Terrace, had a dissassembled AR-15 rifle, a .40-caliber Glock handgun, along with ammunition for both and body armor, according to the report.

A worker sorting mail at New Hall West alerted police after she found a package containing gun parts from Primary Arms addressed to Kevin Ouwenga, according to the report.

Ouwenga possesses a valid firearm owners identification card. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a stored weapon. Guns are prohibited on all property controlled by NIU, a university spokesman told The Daily Chronicle.

Ouwenga's bond was set at $40,000 on Wednesday. Ouwenga could face up to five years in prison.
